  Building Oregon's Future:

Investing in Innovation,

Infrastructure

and Human Capital

Ted Wheeler is Oregon’s 28th State Treasurer and will be Salem City Club’s guest speaker on Friday, October 11.  A sixth-generation Oregonian, he cares deeply about the state’s financial health. He is committed to protecting the state’s current strong credit ratings, to ensuring that public investments remain both prudent and profitable, and to conservatively managing Oregon’s debt.

He was born in Portland and earned diplomas from Lincoln High School in Portland, Stanford University, Columbia University and the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard. He worked in the financial services industry before entering public service, first as Multnomah County Chairman, and then as State Treasurer.  He was appointed as Treasurer in March, 2010, elected in November, 2010 and re-elected in 2012.

The Treasurer helps to protect public deposits and to invest trust funds such as the Oregon Public Employees Retirement Fund, which was recently named the best-performing large public pension fund in the nation.  His careful stewardship of Oregon debt helped the state win an upgrade to its credit rating, and he helped to reform the Oregon 529 College Savings Network to cut fees and improve security for families.

Wheeler is a longtime volunteer and has devoted energy to diverse causes including the Oregon Alcohol and Drug Policy Commission, Portland Mountain Rescue and Goose Hollow Family Shelter. He is an Eagle Scout.   When he isn’t working, Wheeler enjoys endurance sports. He lives in Southwest Portland with his wife Katrina and their daughter.

Please join us as we welcome Ted Wheeler on Friday, October 11, 2013.  As is our tradition we meet at the Willamette Heritage Center at the Mill.  Doors open at 11:30 AM. For lunch reservations email rsvp@salemcityclub.com before noon Wednesday, October 9, 2013.  Parking is free.  For more information on this program please go to www.salemcityclub.com.

2013 Club

Membership Drive

October 1 – December 13

We need your help to introduce your friends, colleagues, family members and others to Salem City Club. So, we've combined a new tool and prize drawings to help you help the SCC.

The theme of the drive is "Member for a Day".  We will be sending Member for a Day certificates to all members via email with directions for passing those certificates to people in the community who might want to give SCC a try, attend a program, and, we hope, join the Club.

Prizes!

  • Free Lunches!  Each "Member for a Day" certificate will be entered into drawings for a free lunch at a future program. The lunch prize drawings will be held at each meeting for the duration of the Membership Drive.
  • A Weekend at the Beach!  Each current member who introduces someone to the club, and the introduction leads to a membership, will be entered into a drawing for a weekend at the beach. The Beach House Get-A-Way drawing will be held December 13, 2013.

Please be part of the success of your Salem City Club Membership Drive. More members help drive better programs, more engagement, and fun. If you have any questions about the Membership Drive, please contact Cindy Condon, Membership Chair, at cindycondon@comcast.net
