Pro-Gay Group Launches Campaign Against LHM App

Living Hope Ministries (LHM) has appeared in over 25 articles and news stories in the US and abroad since Wednesday, Dec. 20th, when pro-gay activists group Truth Wins Out (TWO) wrote Apple to take down Living Hope's free app from its app store. Microsoft quickly followed and today, Amazon also pulled our app. The story was first reported by our local NBC affiliate, and then quickly picked up by the national NBC news and most other major news outlets, even in the UK.  TWO's attacks can be read here. The articles are filled with salacious claims and creative editing that do not accurately represent LHM or what we do at LHM.  In responding to the Christian Post, I wrote:

We are a ministry that for nearly thirty years has helped individuals resolve their feelings they deem incongruent with their faith. We help people deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ

We are saddened by Apple’s and Microsoft’s removal of our app because of a single person’s false accusations. Regardless of their decisions, we will continue to make the app and our services available to those who seek them
through bible study and accountability. We walk with them to align their lives with the teachings of Jesus Christ. Through support groups, they realize they are not alone and are able to share honestly and openly in a non-condemning atmosphere about their struggles, passions, and victories.  From chaos and confusion, they often find peace, hope, and a deeper sense of personal wholeness. Our ministry is free and strictly voluntary.

In a day when diversity and tolerance are celebrated, I would hope it would be extended to issues of faith and practice.

Regarding the claim that LHM practices "conversion therapy" I gave this response:

As for the petition regarding conversion therapy, we offer no therapy. We are a ministry organization and though I have thirty plus years of ministry experience, we have no therapists on our staff. "Conversion Therapy" Is not even a therapeutic modality and is a created term applied to those who believe a traditional and orthodox understanding of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and its power to transform people's lives when they fully trust in it.

What we do is discipleship. We help people understand who they are from a Biblical perspective that has been widely taught, believed and accepted for thousands of years by those who would identify as orthodox Christian. Furthermore, we do not help anyone that is not asking for our assistance as they have experienced a conflict between their feelings and their understanding of their faith. Resolving these conflicts allows people a sense of congruity and brings stability into lives which are often adrift in chaos and confusion.

We ask for your prayers and support in the days ahead. I fully anticipate other stories and continued efforts by TWO and others to eliminate any platforms that LHM has and to shut down our ministry to those who are seeking our help.

  • Pray for those who oppose God's Word that they would experience the love for us that we and the Lord have for them.
  • Pray that God would use this publicity to draw those who are seeking help, but didn't know where to find it.
  • Pray that Christ would be glorified in all that we do and in all the ways we respond.
  • Pray that new visitors to our site would hear, see, and experience the power of the Gospel to transform lives through the stories, testimonies, and articles they find there.
  • Pray that religious freedom will continue to be embraced in our great country, and true tolerance and diversity in God's amazing world might be enjoyed by all.
Living Hope Ministries was established in 1989 and exist to proclaim God's truth as we journey with those seeking sexual and relational wholeness through a more intimate relationship with Jesus Christ.

One Young Man's Story

of Choosing Jesus

By Josh, 26

That night in 2011, as I laid praying for strength to do what God was leading me to do, was one of those defining moments. Even though I didn’t know for sure how the person I was going to tell would react, I trusted God. And God not only protected me, but through that wonderful, loving woman, God lead me to Living Hope Ministries.

Within a few months, I was connected on the Living Hope online forums and the next March I flew down to Texas for the Living Hope Retreat. I was a scared, shy 19-year-old who had never flown by myself, let alone ... (read the rest of Josh's story here)
