New West Campus [Re]Use & [Re]Move Initiative Benefits Community

City of Austin has partnered with Keep Austin Beautiful, State of Texas Alliance for Recycling, U.T. Sustainability Office and multiple local reuse organizations to launch the first West Campus [Re]Use & [Re]Move initiative. This innovative effort provides West Campus students easy access to donation stations during Move-Out which occurs July 27 through August 1 each year.

The endeavor serves as a long-needed solution to the heaps of student discards (gently-used futons, chairs, books, clothing, food, household items, etc.) which accumulate on West Campus curbsides, backstreets and parking lots every year as students rush to move out. [Re]Use & [Re]Move focuses on providing convenient donation stations staffed by local charities.  For information about volunteering, please visit MoveOutATX.Org.

Austin Materials Marketplace Series #4

SXSW, the annual 10-day event brings activities, expos and people to Austin, transforms the Austin Convention Center into an interactive landscape of creativity and learning. Then as soon as it appears, the festival seems to vanish until next year. But what happens to all the materials that were used to construct the wonderful world of SXSW? Where do all the unique and valuable elements (set designs, exhibits, signage, etc.) end up?

Don't Trash Plastic — Recycle It!

Did you know that plastic items, like water bottles, can become a pen, a park bench or even a pair of jeans?

Remember that stretchy, plastic film (bags, wrap, bubble wrap, air pillows) CAN be recycled at designated locations, like our Recycle & Reuse Drop-Off Center! You can also visit plasticfilmrecycling.org to find a list of stores nearest you that accept clean and dry plastic film for recycling.
