March 2011 Jasper Apps Newsletter

March 2011 Newsletter

Welcome to our first newsletter!  I'll give you a quick round-up from the last two months goings on, here at Jasper Apps.

Straight after the launch of our new Squarespace-powered website, I set off on a 4 week trip of my own to New Zealand.  I blogged about using My Vacation HD to help me create a travel journal while I was away, including examples of how the app can share trips to Facebook, Dropbox and Blogger.

I also uploaded some of these New Zealand photos to Flickr and gave them the tag 'my-vacation-app', with the view of starting a collection of photos on Flickr that people have sent from the My Vacation app.  I talk more about this here.

There was, of course, some sad news during my trip concerning the earthquake in Christchurch.  As soon as I read about App Appeal I was happy to support to their cause.

Earlier in March saw our launch of Do Notes, an app that combines two of the most common tasks for iPhone users - keeping track of tasks and writing notes.  The app was featured by Apple in their Productivity New and Noteworthy section!  It is a free app, and it would be great if you could leave ratings and reviews for the app!  Read more about it here.

During March I attended two great tech events: The Cambridge Startup Weekend and NSConference 2011.  I was kindly asked to be a mentor for the Cambridge Startup Weekend, giving mobile app advice to teams with great ideas for new apps.  At NSConference 2011 I discovered a Mac community with so much to learn from - I've been filled with ideas to shape the future of My Vacation!

Last but not least, two days ago a combined update for My Vacation, My Vacation Lite and My Vacation HD was released.  You can read more about the features here and the key changes were:
  • New feature to rotate photos.
  • Larger photos can be sent to Facebook, and shown in Blog posts and Dropbox web pages.
  • Easier way to select which days and photos are selected when publishing.
  • Improved selecting of 'to do' and 'to pack' lists.
  • Swipe recognition in My Vacation HD, so you can more easily navigate around.
  • Speed improvements.

Thank you to those who have left their feedback - all is listened to and influences the future of our apps.

One area of focus for the next release of My Vacation will be to improve the Browser display when you connect a computer to the app via Wifi.  If you use this feature and have any thoughts on what you would like to see then please have your say!

Kind Regards,
Tony Short,
Jasper Apps.
