Redondo Ballet Presents: Through the Pages

Take a seat among friends and loved ones alike. Turn off your phone. Visit and laugh. Reminisce. Maybe hold a hand. Then, when the curtain rises, enter the world of fairy tales.

Enjoy favorites like Cinderella, Peter Pan and The Wizard of Oz as they dance to life on stage. For the next 75 minutes, forget about everything “grown up.” Stay child-like with Peter Pan and click your heels with Dorothy. Ruby shoes and fairy wings are encouraged.

Remember how much you loved having stories told to you as a child? We invite you to experience Through the Pages, a magical ballet experience for all ages, and remember all over again.

New Class: Break Dancing

Dance 1 is happy to announce a new class: Bboy Basics. This beginner-level break dancing class focuses on foundational technique building, strength, balance, and muscle and body control.

Bboy Basics is held on Tuesdays from 6:30-7:30

Ages 7-14

What to wear:

sneakers (for studio use only or that have not been worn outside)
cloth knee pads (made for volleyball or basketball - available at sports equipment stores)
comfortable clothes, no jeans

Happy Halloween!

Have you started thinking about costume ideas for Halloween this year? You might not have to look any further than your closet! If you have recital costumes, your little one may decide to be a straight up ballerina or hip hop dancer, or you can use them as inspiration for many other costumes. Here are a few ideas:

Tutus:

Simply add wings, antennae and/or a wand and turn into a fairy, bumble bee, lady bug, angel or butterfly
Add ears and a tail and become a "pink panther" or black cat
Add a poodle to the skirt and pair it with a white shirt, bobby socks, tennies and hair bow: instant 50's girl
Add a crown and wand for an adorable princess
Turn into a peacock
Tutus make beautiful flower-inspired costumes

Leotards:

Bejewel and add a medal and you are an Olympic gymnast
A cape, knee socks/boots and emblem turns you into a superhero

And for the more adventurous, there's always the zombie dancer.

Winter Show Updates

Winter show registration closes Friday, September 30th. If your child would like to participate, please let us know asap. Meanwhile, we continue to work toward a memorable showcase for your dancers.

When: Sunday, December 11th.
Times: 12:00 (11:00 call) and 3:00 (2:00 call)
Where: Redondo Union High School
Tickets: Available now online or at the front desk
Adults (13+): $18.00 / Children (3-12): $10
At the door: Adults: $23 / Children (3-12): $15

Choreography: It is our goal that your dancers are learning technique every week and not spending entire classes learning a dance. However, remembering a dance from week to week and adding on is an important skill to acquire. So, for many of the classes, the teachers set aside no more than 10 minutes of class time teaching the number.

Videos: For our Toddler and Combo classes we have videotaped the teacher performing the dance so that you may review it with your child. Search “Dance1RedondoBeach” on our You Tube Channel starting October 28^th.

Absentee Policy: Please be aware that there should be NO UNEXCUSED ABSENCES during the month of October and November leading up to the show. The dancer's participation in class during this period is vital. Please come into the studio to discuss any extenuating circumstances that may cause missed classes.

Volunteers Needed: Parents! We need many volunteers to help us get the venue ready for the show and to help wrangle dancers. Please sign up on the bulletin boards located in the lounge areas. Parents will be asked to attend a short orientation the day of the show. Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Ad Form Due- November 18th
Cast Party- December 2^nd6:00 – 8:00 pm, ages 5+
Portrait Day- December 4^th at Dance 1
Dress Rehearsal- December 10th at Dance 1. Level I and above will be called to this rehearsal (no toddler or combo classes).

Costume Day!

Have you ever seen an octopus do a plie? Or a lady bug do a grand jete? Well, come to Dance 1 and you may!

Dancers are invited to wear their Halloween costumes to class on Saturday, Oct 29th and Halloween day. Combo students may come in costume starting October 25th through Halloween.

Make-Up Policy

If your dancer unexpectedly misses class, anyone in the family can use the make-up within 8 weeks. After 8 weeks the make-up is lost. Our full policy can be found here.

Did You Know?

If you are looking for a special class, day or time, Dance 1 will open a new class with a minimum of three students. So gather up your friends and contact us to make arrangements!
