SUN STREET CENTERS QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER
"Those who bring sunshine to the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves."
April 2014
HOW TO BE HAPPIER AND MORE PROSPEROUS
In a recent article in The New York Times by Arthur C. Brooks, he states that “Donors ended up with more income after making their gifts”.  He went on to explain that he “found solid evidence that giving stimulated prosperity…..Psychologists (sic) have long found that donating and volunteering bring a host of benefits to those who give”.  One particular study “confirmed that, in terms of quantifying “happiness”, spending money on oneself barely moves the needle, but spending on others causes a significant increase.”
This newsletter provides ways for you to become a happier, more prosperous person.  Enjoy!

ON THE ROAD TO RECOVERY - ALUMNI INTERVIEW
Erika, Pueblo del Mar

Before finding recovery, I had lost 4 of my 5 sons to Child Protective Services, (my other son was in the custody of his father).  I had been using “Meth” for about 5 years.  My life had become unmanageable. I lost our home, contact with my family, and stopped attending church and all the other activities that I had been involved in.
Thanks to my recovery through Door to Hope, NA; and now, Pueblo del Mar, I have regained custody of 2 of my sons and I will reunite with the other 3 in a month.  I now run the NA Living Clean meeting at Pueblo del Mar, and am very involved with the youth in the Pueblo community.
My goals are to continue my recovery and to go to college.  I hope to become a CNA in order to support my family as an independent citizen without government assistance.  I am so appreciative for the opportunity to live at Pueblo del Mar to help me get my feet back on the ground.  I am grateful for the fabulous staff and other families that have helped me become a better person – and, more importantly, a good mother to my children.

Seventeen residents volunteered as members of "The Green Team" - handling the compost, trash and recycling. The BSIM has been a "green" event for many years, achieving a 95% diversion rate (only 5% of all the waste is trash!) Activities Coordinator, Dave Scotton, is pictured with Jose, Lupe and Anthony.
Put a smile on your face (and that of our clients) when you shop online! Recently, Sun Street Centers signed up with Amazon Smile to receive 0.5% of the price of any eligible purchase made through Amazon Smile. How does it work? It’s as easy as signing into your Amazon account. Go to smile.amazon.com and sign in to your Amazon account. You will be asked to pick your favorite charity. Enter “Sun Street Centers” and from then on, 0.5% of any eligible purchase you make on Amazon will be donated to us. Easy, right?!
Want to do even more good? Similar to Amazon Smile, we are also signed up with Goodsearch.com, an online service that raises money for charities while you play games, search the web, dine and shop. Here is how it works: go to goodsearch.com and type in “Sun Street Centers” in the Get Started field. Then sign up with your preferred email and – voila! The next time you shop online, chances are that a percentage of your purchase will be donated to Sun Street Centers. Happy shopping!
