Welcome! This week our roundup of interesting and noteworthy publishing industry stories focuses on BuzzFeed’s growing video empire, publishers betting big on virtual reality, Adobe’s purchase of audience engagement maker Livefyre, how magazine subscription discounts are affecting newsstand sales, and more.

BuzzFeed’s Tasty food channel is providing the model for its fast-growing video business. With a multi-platform, multi-channel distribution strategy, the media outlet is expanding its ability to cross-promote content, an attractive feature for advertisers.

Virtual reality was the focus of several publishers’ NewFronts presentations—especially given Facebook’s and YouTube’s push to build 360-degree videos into their platforms.

Adobe is buying Livefyre, a maker of audience engagement tools. The company plans to integrate Livefyre into Adobe Enterprise Management and Adobe Marketing Cloud.

Subscription rate discounts—now sometimes more than 70%—are having a big impact on magazine newsstand sales, according to a two-year MagNet study.
