Men's magazine Details is closing, layoffs are in the works, and Self and Glamour business operations are merging, Conde Nast announced. The company is said to be restructuring Hearst-style, where publishers are grouped under categories like men's and design.

Google+ isn't dead yet. After gutting some features earlier this year, Google is redesigning the social network with a focus on communities and "Pinterest-style functions" dedicated to specific topics.

Virtual reality is hot, especially with The New York Times' high-profile debut of its NYTVR app and distribution of Google Cardboard viewers to its subscribers. While still in experimental stages, reports say the technology has the potential to dramatically change storytelling.

Gawker's reboot is evidence that publishers are finding it hard to compete as both media and technology companies. In addition to refocusing its coverage on politics, Gawker is abandoning plans to license its multimillion-dollar Kinja discussion platform to other publishers.
