Hop To It and Get Running!

A Message from the President:

Happy Spring! The improved weather means more running, and hopefully, more races. Whether virtual or in-person, feel free to share your race with us so we can add it to our race calendar. Spring also means that we can hold some potential outdoor social events. This week, the board will be meeting in-person (outside) for the first time since February 2020. We've also discussed having a picnic similar to our Bread & Water get together in the fall. Stay tuned for more information! As always, feel free to reach out to me or any other board members if you have any suggestions for the club. Looking forward to seeing you on a run, picnic, or anything in-between!

Let's all welcome Allie Collier to the Striders...

So...tell us a little about yourself...
My name is Alli Collier, and I'm excited to be part of the Kingstowne Striders. I love anything that involves the outdoors - running, hiking, biking, swimming, golfing, anything active. I am a big animal lover. You'll often hear me talk about my rescue animals, Nugget and Bagheera, and volunteer weekly at the Fairfax County Animal Shelter. I absolutely love my career - I'm a Realtor and love helping my clients find a place to call home. And finally, I'm super excited that my fiancé, Josh, and I are getting married in July this year at Lake Tahoe, my favorite place. I grew up in Carson City, NV, about a half an hour away from this beautiful place, and my family still resides in the area.

What's your running background?
I started running in the 4th grade, as a part of my elementary school's cross country program. That same year, I joined a competitive running team and ran year round. Throughout middle school I traveled to run and participated in the Junior Olympics. As an adult, I enjoy longer distances at a slower pace. I ran my first marathon, the Marine Corps Marathon, in 2019, and have run a number of half marathons.
What's your favorite race or favorite running music?
My favorite race is the Richmond Half Marathon. I love that the final portion is downhill and really enjoy visiting the breweries afterwards as part of the experience!

Do you have any running goals?
I'd like to run another in-person marathon when I can and complete it in under 4 hours!

Thanks for introducing yourself Allie and welcome to the club!!  We look forward to seeing you at the runs.

All members are welcome to join board meetings.

Due to COVID there are some restrictions. The board will be socially distanced in person.  Members who wish to join, could join virtually.  Let us know in advance so we can make accommodations.
Things are slowly beginning to open up again.  Races which have been postponed are looming in the distance.  Some races are in person at limited capacity, per VA guidelines.

In light of this, a list of local races held in person will be included in future newsletters.
Big races which are virtual and in person will be listed here so we can all cheer one another on!
An Exciting Change.  We are now using a Google Calendar to track runs and other events, click  here for weekend run details and run leader information.

Group runs continue to be Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.  Feel free to schedule impromptu runs on your own or through Facebook.

Remember to maintain proper social distance and/or wear a face covering at all events!
