A Festival of Knowledge

Dave Edgcombe brought in the crowds at the Appledore Book Festival this year with over 100 people attending his event. He gave an illustrated talk looking at changes to the coast of North Devon. He compared contemporary images taken in 2016 with images taken in the 1970’s, 1980’s and from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, sourced from the Beaford Old Archive. More. Coastal Recording Underway

Our Coastal Creatures project aims to engage the general public in surveying the wonderfully diverse species along the coast. In September we held the first BioBlitz of the project at Croyde where over 450 species were recorded of which 150 of those were new to species records in that area which is a fantastic result. We will continue surveying the coast regularly throughout the project with a group of volunteers who will be trained on survey techniques and species identification. If you’re interested in taking part in our species surveying project, please get in touch with Cat at catherine.oliver@devon.gov.uk

Capturing Our Coast South West

Coastwise and Coastal Creatures' volunteers were at Lee Bay helping CoCoast to gather data on species found in Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). On this occasion volunteers conducted twenty minute surveys on species of their choice.
