A Festival of Knowledge

Dave Edgcombe brought in the crowds at the Appledore Book Festival this year with over 100 people attending his event. He gave an illustrated talk looking at changes to the coast of North Devon. He compared contemporary images taken in 2016 with images taken in the 1970’s, 1980’s and from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, sourced from the Beaford Old Archive. More. Northam Burrows History Tour

On Tuesday 25th October the AONB’s Project Officer led a Guided Walk around part of the Northam Burrows Country park site, in partnership with Torridge District Council’s Head Ranger Mike Day. Read more.

Clovelly Dykes Visit

On a cold Monday morning in mid-October North Devon Archaeological Society arranged a very special site visit to the historic scheduled monument of Clovelly Dykes which is located in the AONB near Clovelly Cross. More

Coastal Recording Underway

Our Coastal Creatures project aims to engage the general public in surveying the wonderfully diverse species along the coast. In September we held the first BioBlitz of the project at Croyde where over 450 species were recorded of which 150 of those were new to species records in that area which is a fantastic result. We will continue surveying the coast regularly throughout the project with a group of volunteers who will be trained on survey techniques and species identification. Remote Beach Clean

Come and join Cat Oliver for an extreme beach clean reaching parts of the AONB you don't often see. Meeting at Greencliff on Saturday 3rd December to walk to Cockington Mouth, this is a walk and beach clean with Skern Lodge removing litter by boat. More

Photographic Competition

This year’s AONB category was our Historic Environment. AONB Partnership Chairman Steve Pitcher was on hand to present prizes at the Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon on Saturday 12th November. The winner was Gaynor Gough who took a superb image of historic Clovelly High Street. More.

Capturing Our Coast South West

Coastwise and Coastal Creatures' volunteers were at Lee Bay helping CoCoast to gather data on species found in Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). On this occasion volunteers conducted twenty minute surveys on species of their choice. The most notable recording was seven species of anemone found in only twenty minutes including these gem anemones. More
