Midweek Lenten Services

During the weeks of Lent we will gather in person (and on Zoom) at 7:00pm on Wednesdays. Our worship will feature songs from a Lenten Vespers Service Hidden in Christ, by Richard Bruxvoort Colligan (whose songs are included in the new Lutheran hymnal All Creation Sings). Our theme for the Lenten series is The Lord's Prayer. Although we will not be having Soup Suppers this year, we hope you can join us for worship in person or on zoom.

This Sunday, March 6: The Adult Forum will feature a presentation by Sharon Haupt about this year’s winners of the Caldecott Awards for childrens’ books. She will explain what the judges looked for in these prize-winning submissions.
Beginning Sunday, March 13, the Adult Forums will feature a Lenten series of reviewing Luther’s Small Catechism—Lord’s Prayer, Apostles Creed, Ten Commandments, Baptism and Communion.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH
How to Support the People and Churches of Ukraine:
Lutheran World Federation

The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) has launched a call for donations to support the churches and people of Ukraine, who are fleeing their homes and seeking shelter, basic necessities such as food and water, following Russia’s military invasion of the country.
LWF General Secretary Rev. Anne Burghardt said this “support is vital for people desperately seeking shelter from the gunfire and bombing. Every donation counts.”

Volunteers from Mt. Carmel prepare and serve a hot lunch for The People's Kitchen program at 40 Prado on the first Friday of each month. Here is a list of our volunteers for Friday, March 4:

Entree - Karen Almas; Linda Lex; Ruth Rollefson; Janis Sexton; Sheilah Tietje; Kathy Towle; Judy Tewell; Jan Uder
Salad - Diana Rheinisch; Ruth Rollefson
Canned Fruit - Rebecca Christensen; Jan Uder
Milk - Sue Cummings

Please contact Jan Uder, or the church office at
info@mtcarmelslo.org if you are unable to serve this month, or if you would like information on volunteering in the future.
March 13 is Russ Andersen‘s 98th birthday. Why not send him a birthday wish either by snail mail or bring a card to the church and put it in the basket provided. Should you wish to send it directly, please call the church office for his most recent address. He loves getting cards in the mail!
The cupboards at Iglesia Santa Cruz are critically low on non-perishable items! They are in dire need of:

MASA ~~ RICE ~~ FLOUR ~~ OIL

We'll gladly do the shopping if you perfer to make a cash donation on Sunday.

Suggested donation schedule:

1st Sundays - Rice & Beans
2nd Sundays - Masa & Oil
3rd Sundays - Sugar & Salt
4th Sundays - Laundry/Dish Soap & Pesonal hygeine items (men & women)

Matching Gifts Challenge Benefitting the SLO County Food Bank

The new donation site is up and running. Please click the link below for more information.

Link to Mt. Carmel matching funds page

If you prefer to donate to the matching funds challenge by check, make your check out to the SLO County Food Bank. Write Mt. Carmel Matching Funds Drive on the memo line so that your donation will be properly credited.  Mail to:

Food Bank Coalition of SLO County
1180 Kendall Road
San Luis Obispo, CA 93401

Please do not route your food bank donations through Mount Carmel.  Doing so will delay your donation and make tracking the matching funds challenge donations difficult for the food bank.

Thank you to Mount Carmel for your always generous spirit!

We'd love to hear from you. Please call or email with your questions or comments.
