Here's what you need to know to participate:

Church News and Notes
65th Anniversary Commemoration

During the first three weeks of November, we will be commemorating the 65th anniversary of the founding of Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church.
  • November 7th—All Saints Sunday—along with remembering loved ones who have died we will have a display of banners made or funded by Mt. Carmel members.
  • November 14th and 21st - we will have a “Wall of Wonder” along the gallery wall with designations for the decades of Mt. Carmel’s history. As part of our worship on these dates you will be invited to mark dates (births, baptisms, confirmations, weddings, funerals) and other life passages in your own history at Mt. Carmel. You are also asked to bring photos that may be put up on the wall of wonder. Also, on November 14, following the Adult Forum with an update fromt the Call Committee, we will have a barbeque hosted by the Road Kill Grill and featuring a musical performances by the SLO Strummers (Bob Grosse’s ukulele group). A free will offering will be collected at the barbeque to benefit CAT.
  • November 21 - the Adult Forum with feature remembrances by long-time Mt. Carmel members.
We hope you will join us for these times of giving thanks for Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church.

Pastor Richard
This Sunday, November 14 - The Call Team is progressing rapidly with reviewing and interviewing Pastoral candidates for Mt. Carmel. They will update the congregation as much as possible (no names, for example). To prepare for the barbeque lunch this Sunday, Adult Forum will meet in the Sanctuary at 11am.

Next Sunday, November 21 - As part of our celebration of Mt. Carmel's 65th Anniversary, for Adult Forum we hear from some of our long-time members, all who have been members for at least 50 years. Glen and Nance Priddy (who grew up at Mt. Carmel) will be the hosts.

We are reading Living Buddha, Living Christ by Vietnamese monk, Thich Nhat Hanh.

Buddha and Christ, perhaps the two most pivotal figures in the history of humankind, each left behind a legacy of teachings and practices that have shaped the lives of billions of people over two millennia. If they were to meet on the road today, what would each think of the other's spiritual views and practices?

Thich Nhat Hanh has been part of a decades-long dialogue between two great contemplative traditions, and brings to Christianity an appreciation of its beauty that could be conveyed only by an outsider. In lucid, meditative prose, he explores the crossroads of compassion and holiness at which the two traditions meet, and he reawakens our understanding of both. "On the altar in my hermitage," he says, "are images of Buddha and Jesus, and I touch both of them as my spiritual ancestors."

Join us on the first Sunday of Advent to make your own Advent Wreath. All supplies provided.
The Bright Star of Bethlehem devotions for Advent are a gift from the sponsors of our recent photo exhibition. The daily devotions are written by members of The Bright Stars of Bethlehem Board and worshipfully focus on the life and experiences of the Christians of Bethlehem living in a land occupied by Israeli armed forces. The devotions point out how the "little town of Bethlehem" is persevering in the 21st Century. Copies are available in the narthex. Please help yourself.
