MARTHA FRANCIS DIAZ: (1928 – 2018)
 
DIAZ, MARTHA, passed away peacefully at her home in on July 11th, 2018, in Palmetto Bay, FL. She was 89. Martha is preceded in death by her beloved husband legendary UM Swimming Coach and Sports Hall of Fame member Bill Diaz, her brother and sister in law Louis and May Leon, and her parents Felipe and Estella Leon. LOCAL SOFTBALL PLAYER ON NCAA CHAMPION TEAM
 
Carsyns Gordon, a member of the Women’s College World Series champion Florida State University softball team, is pictured with her dad, Tom Gordon, while holding the championship trophies. A Palmetto Bay resident, Carsyns is a product of the Howard Palmetto Stingrays softball program and Coral Reef High School. Named to the ACC All-Academic Team, she lead FSU softball and the ACC with 60 runs, 54 walks, 11 doubles, four triples, 12 home runs, 51 RBI and 19 stolen bases.
