COMMUNITY NEWSPAPERS ENDORSES DONNA E. SHALALA FOR U.S. CONGRESS-SEAT 27

Donna E. Shalala is running to win Florida’s 27th Congressional District – a seat that is considered a key pickup opportunity for Democrats in their fight to take back the House. This has been one of the most hotly contested races during perhaps one the most important mid-term elections in years. As a long-time resident here, Shalala is unapologetic in her love for South Florida’s... Read More »

MARIO DIAZ BALART FOR U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES - 25TH DISTRICT

As the incumbent running for Florida’s 25th District in the U.S. House of Representatives, Diaz-Balart currently is the Chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing & Urban Development. He also serves on the State, Foreign Operations, & Related Programs Subcommittee; and the Defense Subcommittee of Appropriations; and also on the House Committee on the Budget. In Washington, Diaz-Balart has consistently worked to lower taxes, allowing families and small businesses to keep more of their hard-earned money. He has also focused on improving... Read More »

DEBBIE MUCARSEL-POWELL IS THE BEST CANDIDATE FOR U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES - 26TH DISTRICT

The Community Newspapers gives its endorsement to Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, the congressional candidate who’s life and career has been all about giving back. Born in Ecuador, Debbie immigrated to the U.S. as a teenager with her mother and sisters seeking the “American Dream.” Now, she’s running as the Democratic candidate seeking election to the U.S. House to represent the 26th Congressional District of Florida – to better the lives of those in her community – and to continue to give back. What inspired her to run is that, as an immigrant, she is grateful for... Read More »

COMMUNITY NEWSPAPERS ENDORSES MARILI CANCIO FOR FLORIDA’S 40TH SENATE SEAT

Republican attorney and Miami Dade College Board Vice Chair Marili Cancio is in a race to win the state senate seat currently held by incumbent Senator Annette Taddeo, whom we previously endorsed. But times have changed and we strongly believe its time for real change in Florida’s 40th Senate district. In this district where the vast majority of people are concerned only with local issues, the Community Newspapers endorses Cancio. Residents here deserve to be represented by someone who is truly responsive to the needs of all the people all the time... Read More »

There’s a wonderful tradition here in South Florida for the holidays and I’m pleased to be a part of it and help support this program. It’s called Be a Santa to a Senior and it was brought to Miami 14 years ago by Gabriel De Armas Jr., director of business and community development for Home Instead Senior Care, an in-home elderly care franchise network. The idea behind it is to bring holiday cheer to senior citizens living alone or in assisted living facilities (ALFs) with little family contact. The holidays are so geared towards families sharing and being together, and giving gifts to each other, but all too often seniors who are on their own or who are living in ALFs don’t have relatives who can be with them during what should be a joyful holiday season. That’s where Be a Santa to a Senior comes in. Home Instead Senior Care puts together a list of names and gift ideas from adult assisted living facilities as the holiday season begins. Those lists are displayed at collection spots hosted by participating local... Read More »

REPRESENTATIVE ASENCIO LEADS THE WAY IN FINDING THE RIGHT SOLUTIONS

Elected to Florida’s 118th legislative district in 2016, Representative Robert Asencio has been highly successful in leading the way in finding the right solutions to the many challenges facing the residents of District 118, Miami-Dade County, and Florida in general. With more than 33 years of public service under his belt – at the local, state and national levels – Representative Asencio strongly believes that elected officials should be held to a high standard of leadership. For that reason, and many more, the Community Newspapers recommends that Representative... Read More »
