AMECA CLINIC UPDATE

We are delighted to be able to show you the fantastic progress of the AMECA Primary Healthcare Clinic at Chilaweni;.....................

The quality of the buildings, attention to detail, thoughtfulness and rigorous standards of supervision, undertaken by our contractor, S R Nicholas, has amazed us all. Elio, we thank you for the fantastic job that you and the build team are doing. We believe we are setting the standard for building a quality clinic in Malawi, on time and within budget.

After the Christmas break, we will undertake the interior painting, construction of a borehole and completion of the project, ready for handover to the Blantyre District Health Office.

The Honourable Minister of Health, Peter Kumpalume, will officially open The AMECA Clinic on the 8th of May 2017. This date would have been Alex's 34th birthday.

In the interim, on behalf of us all at AMECA, we wish you a very Happy Christmas. Thank you for your enduring support; we hope that you will continue to support us in 2017.

Ruthie Markus, CEO

Funding support for clinic ambualnce

St Andrew's International High School in Blantyre has been totally amazing!!  We look forward to seeing you on site again soon. Their many fundraising activities raised a fantastic MK3.5 million in the last academic year and we are really grateful for your kind support again this year!! Together with funds raised by Shiplake College in the UK, we have just purchased a new Toyota ambulance for the AMECA Clinic. Thank you so very much to all staff and pupils of both schools, who worked so hard to raise these funds.

We wish to also thank Toyota Malawi in Blantyre, for the discount they so kindly provided for the ambulance and for all their liaison and advice. The ambulance looks great!!!! Many thanks also to Cartrack for the discount on the tracker for the ambulance.

Ruthie Markus, CEO of AMECA with John Connell, MD of Toyota Malawi.

The remaining challenges..........

Despite our best efforts, we still remain without ESCOM power for the clinic.................. we are on the case!!

Test drilling for borehole construction, to provide continuous safe water for the clinic.

October saw a visit by eight junior doctors to the village; promoted by a consultant from Croydon University Hospital, they undertook a primary healthcare survey of the eleven catchment villages for the clinic. This pilot study will form the basis of ongoing surveys to identify clinical priorities and need.
Initial questionnaires and interviews with pregnant women in these communities has resulted in a piece of land being identified for a future maternity unit at the clinic site.

As always, our deepest gratitude to the growing number of donors and supporters; with special thanks to:
