Welcome

Welcome to the October edition of the EPSA newsletter.

I would encourage all members to have a read of the new 'EPS pods and waffle raft slabs blog' section on the EPSA website. The blog is aimed to address EPS pod and waffle raft slab basics, what they are, where they come from, why they are popular, how they add value, as well as their construction and specifications. Please share this link around, this is also free for you to link your website.

Happily our friends in New York City have come to their senses and overturned the single-use EPS ban, while elsewhere appears to be a polystyrene-eating worm which may help us recycle scrap EPS.

It was fantastic to see so many people at the 2015 EPSA annual conference and AGM, in what was a very successful event. We were happy to welcome two new board members, Justin Kelsey and Andrew Cottrell, and to thank outgoing board members, Russell Bielenberg and Bernie Madden. There was some great discussions throughout the day and we appreciate all who attended and participated in the forum.

All post-AGM documents are now on the Members Only section of the website in the 2015 folder, as the files are too large to circulate via email. If you are unable to recall your login details, please contact admin@epsa.org.au or call (03) 6281 2320.

Next month, we will be supporting the 2015 Queensland Premier's Sustainability Awards and I would encourage all members to have a look at the awards and we are open to sponsorship recommendations for the future.

Restaurant owners petition to reverse New York's single use EPS ban

The New York Restaurant Action Alliance announced a few months ago that more than 1,000 small business owners from New York City’s five boroughs signed a petition demanding Mayor Bill de Blasio reverse his ban on single use EPS products which came into effect 1 July 2015.

In September 2015,  New York State Supreme Court overturned New York City's ban on foam foodservice items.
