Although not with ASDC, we wanted to wish Brian Stackhouse a happy retirement. For the past 41 years, Brian has coached RDC'S cross country running team, including a few of our AEP athletes. All the best Brian!

Achievers are Amazing 1.0
Physiological Development
“This is how many people become artists, musicians, writers,
computer programmers, record-holding athletes, scientists...
by spending time alone practicing what they love.”
Meg Cabot
This is the first of a four part series – Achievers are Amazing. Whole person development encompasses
growth in four areas: physiological (movement), emotional (composure), mental (cognitive) and
sociological (social). 1.0 explores physiological development. Achievers commit to whole person
Individuals who achieve greatness should be celebrated. They embody the characteristics of
champions. Their performances, however, are deceiving; outcomes rarely divulge the deeper
development story. Grace, poise and precision which we applaud in performers is found far away from
the performance venue. Even if the performer harbours genetic, economic and political advantages
(which is not often the case) achievement arises in the “
shadow of the valley of stress, strain and toil”.
To achieve fluidity and flow in performance requires enormous conviction and sacrifice in physical,
emotional, mental and social domains. It should not surprise us then that the performer loves his / her
artistry; but it doesn’t make it easy - ever! The brilliance of performance is found in a lonely, fatiguing
and often disquieting locale called
Training (practice).
