Athlete of the Month

The Alberta Sport Development Centre – Central (ASDC-C) is pleased to announce that the ASDC-Central Female Athlete of the Month for January 2017 is Kira Weddell. Kira is a 15 year old Red Deer resident, Grade 10 student at Lindsay Thurber High School and a competitive volleyball athlete. This past fall, Kira decided to focus her efforts and energy on the sport of volleyball.  Kira was a member of the Lindsay Thurber Raiders team this fall that was ranked 2nd and finished 2nd at ASAA 4A Volleyball Provincials in Red Deer. Ericsson, Anders and Pool, Robert (2016) in PEAK: How to Master Almost Anything explores deliberate training. There are three levels.
1.    Naive practice – doing something repeatedly.
2.    Purposeful practice – practice with well defined, specific goals.
3.    Deliberate Training is training in which there is a deeper level of conviction to growth and development and is comprised of many foci.

High performance athletes depend on coordination and agility to fine tune their skills and abilities on the field of play. Outside of the skills needed specifically for sport, agility is often looked at as a leading factor in determining success in a sport.
