80 / 20 Rule as Applied to Adulthood

You may have heard of the 80/20 Rule.   Twenty percent of athletes get 80% of the medals;  twenty percent of the athletes do 80% of the work, are two examples. Twenty percent of the employees do 80% of the work.  Twenty percent of our efforts accomplish 80% of our productivity.

In a recent study of 18 to 25 year olds only 20 percent (actually 16%) of the respondents stated they felt they had achieved adulthood.   They were asked to respond to the following dimensions: 1) accepting responsibility for the consequences of your actions, 2) establishing a relationship with parents as an equal adult, 3) being financially independent from their parents and 4) deciding on beliefs and values independently of parents / other influences.

If you are approaching 18 years of age are you going to be among the 20% or 80%?  What about when you reach 25 years of age?  If you are 14-16 years old what will you say at 18, or 25.

It is interesting to know that 84% of university students (18-25) felt overwhelmed; only 16% believe they are coping well with the demands. Similarly, 79% of university students felt exhausted (not physically); only 21% felt they were experiencing well-being.
