Preventing Preeclampsia With Natural Therapies

Preeclampsia is a condition in which pregnant women experience a sudden increase in blood pressure anytime after 20 weeks of pregnancy. The condition is also marked by high levels of protein in the urine. Women with preeclampsia may experience fluid retention as well. Preeclampsia can harm the kidneys, liver, and brain and may lead to long-term health problems. It can also be fatal for both mother and baby. Consequently, it is not something to mess around with. Women with preeclampsia often do not feel ill. However, they may experience these symptoms. Acupuncture & Labour Induction: 9 FAQ's

It seems that acupuncture is being seen less as an ‘alternative’ therapy for labour induction and more of a first-line treatment, often recommended by midwives and doctors alike. There are numerous studies reporting it’s effectiveness in inducing labour and is often preferred by pregnant women because it brings on a woman’s own natural labour (with a gradual build-up) instead of the intense and unrelenting experience a medically induced labour can typically create. There are specific acupuncture points which stimulate the release of oxytocin within the body, which is the hormone involved in uterine contractions and labour in general. At Paddington Clinic, we see many women for labour induction and have compiled a FAQ list to answer some queries you may have. Continue reading...

Acupuncture For Breech Babies

Since the late nineties there has been evidence to suggest that your breech baby can be turned to its optimal position for birth using moxibustion and acupuncture, a Chinese medicine technique. One of the main techniques used to warm the acupuncture point at the end of your little toe, the last point on your Bladder meridian! You’d be forgiven for thinking that it all sounds like a bunch of hocus pocus. However, the Chinese have been doing this for women for centuries with great success, and now research is backing up its efficacy with reports of over 80% success rates. Many doctors are even recommending this procedure as research has made its way into many medical journals. Continue reading..

What Your Baby Inherits: The Need For Pregnancy Preparation

Traditionally in China, perspective parents would spend a year getting to their optimal health before becoming pregnant. This is a known concern in Chinese medicine that if both parents are in fantastic health both mentally and physically then they are more likely to give birth to a strong healthy baby.

And this is why:

The growing and maturating of the sperm and ovum (which combine to form an embryo – your potential baby) takes a period of 120 days. Everything that you and your partner ingest, inhale or are exposed to in that 120 days will influence the health of your eggs and sperm for better or worse, and Continue reading...

Hypnobirthing - made famous by Kate Middleton - is a birthing approach which uses deep relaxation, self hypnosis and breathing techniques for a gentler, calmer (and less painful!) birth. Joel our acupuncturist is a second time Hypnobirthing dad and can attest to the power it had for his labouring partner and also the clarity it gave to his role as a support person and all the things he could do to help!

We are so lucky to team up with Melissa Spilsted, founder of Hypnobirthing Australia, to offer
$50 OFF all her Hypnobirthing courses for all Paddington Clinic clients for the month of April.

We cannot recommend this course enough! For more information visit the Hypnobirthing Australia website here. When booking your course, be sure to mention you are from Paddington Clinic to receive your $50 discount.
