Paris reaches historic agreement

During what looks to be the warmest December on record, nearly 200 countries have committed to taking specific action to tackle climate change under the Paris Agreement. CXC Director Andy Kerr said: 'This is very welcome news in the run up to Christmas. The agreement includes both 'developed' and 'developing' countries - a first for the COP negotiations. It can rightly be described as a big step forward.'

Using and developing the Carbon Calculator

Since 2011, applications for the development of wind farms of 50 MW or greater on peatland sites have been expected to use the Scottish Government’s Peatland Carbon Calculator as part of their environmental impact assessment.

This report reviews the current use of the calculator in Scotland, and considers the potential for enhancing and extending its use.

CCC to meet in Edinburgh 

The Committee on Climate Change will be coming to Scotland again to hold an evidence gathering session on 22 January.

Their meeting will be at the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation. Further details to follow in the new year.

Lessening the impact of climate change on the world's poorest

Scotland will invest an extra £12 million over the next four years to help reduce the impact of climate change on the world’s poorest communities.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon made the announcement during the UN global climate change summit in Paris.
