Spotlight on defence at CEDA lunch

Hughes was a key sponsor of the Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA) defence industries overview in May.

More than 300 industry and academic leaders heard Minister for Defence Industry the Hon Christopher Pyne MP outline the flow-on economic impact of almost $100 billion of defence spending in South Australia, including construction of three air warfare destroyers; two offshore patrol vessels, nine future frigates and the $50 billion Future Submarine program to be delivered by Naval Group at the expanded Osborne shipyards.

Celebrating 20 years of Adelaide Airport Ltd

Adelaide Airport Ltd (AAL) this week celebrated 20 years since taking over the operations of Adelaide and Parafield Airports.

In 1998, AAL made a promise to deliver better facilities and attract more flights to more Australian and international destinations. Twenty years on, even their most optimistic forecasts have been exceeded. Today, AAL has an award-winning domestic and international terminal, passenger numbers have more than doubled, and travellers are connected with more domestic and international destinations than ever before.

And there’s more to come, including the opening of the Atura Hotel scheduled for September.

Hughes PR is proud to have supported Adelaide Airport over this journey, and we congratulate the entire AAL team on this wonderful milestone.

Research highlights FIFO workers' mental health distress

Rural and Remote Mental Health (RRMH) had its research into the mental health of 'Fly In Fly Out' (FIFO) workers published in the Medical Journal of Australia in May, with Hughes helping the organisation to generate national media coverage for the findings.
The research found that the prevalence of high levels of psychological distress was more than two and a half times greater among FIFO workers than the Australian population, with workers aged 25 – 34 and those on a 2/1 roster most at risk.

More than 150 pieces of national media coverage were achieved across print, online and broadcast media including the ABC’s World Today, The Age and Sydney Morning Herald.
Hughes helped RRMH further promote the research through social media and briefings for key politicians and other stakeholders. Read more here.

This year’s event is expected to be the largest yet, as leaders from all sectors join in solidarity to raise awareness and funds for the increasing number of people experiencing homelessness.
Funds raised will enable Vinnies to keep up with increasing demands for their meal services, home visitation service and to support hundreds of people staying at their crisis accommodation centres.
Donate here to contribute to Simon’s fundraising!
