Our Glass is Half Full

June has arrived and the Kids Smiles team has been hard at work in our dental centers and in the community. Since January, we have provided dental care for nearly 6,048 children through 15,119 visits between our three dental centers. We have also provided more than $103,450 in free care for uncovered services and uninsured children through our Grin & Share It program. Our Education Team has provided dental and overall health education to 6,627 children in the waiting rooms and 11,332 children in local schools and Head Start centers throughout the Philadelphia and Washington, DC areas. We are so thankful to have the opportunity to have touched the lives of so many children already this year, but it wouldn't be possible without the support of our current and commited 2012 donors:

Kids Smiles Featured on Washington Post Web

Following the receipt of a $20,000 grant from the Tom's of Maine Dental Health for All program, Kids Smiles of DC received a second great honor of a feature slideshow on the Washington Post website. The photos depict school children receiving dental care through the KSDC Prevention Program. During the 2011-2012 school year, children in four DC area schools benefited from the program which brings exams, x-rays, cleanings, and restorative dental care to children who otherwise might not visit a dentist. The launch of the the KSDC Prevention Program was made possible in part by Oral Health America and the Dental Trade Alliance Foundation.

Dr. Rose and Harris are both welcome additions to the continually growing Kids Smiles team and are major support for the delivery of care to our increasing number of patients.

Kids Smiles,
CHOP Partner

Kids Smiles is beginning an exciting partnership with Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania to integrate medical and dental health care in west Philadelphia. CHOP is building a new 55-exam room primary pediatric medical facility at 48th and Market Streets, just 10 blocks from Kids Smiles' west Philadelphia dental center. Medical and dental care services will merge when a Kids Smiles community educator provides lessons from our Dental Detectives Academy to children in the waiting room of the new medical facility. A Kids Smiles dental hygienist will also provide dental screenings and refer children with tooth decay to our clinic up the street. The opening of the new facility is expected at the end of 2012. Learn more about it here.
