In 2014, with assistance from the New Jersey State Forestry Services, U.S. Forest Service and scientists from the United Kingdom and Russia, researchers teamed up to collect data on a prescribed fire conducted in the fire prone Pine Barrens of New Jersey. Tracking of the fire’s embers, or fire brands, was an important aspect of the study, along with analysis of fire behavior and smoke production. This short video is a glimpse into the project.
Participants included program staff from the newest member of our National Fire Science Network - the North Atlantic Fire Science Consortium. The consortium provides a forum for connecting researchers and managers to catalyze fire science collaborations, and a cohesive outlet for regional fire science communication and delivery.
