First Major Show
After working in the studio all winter I am ready to show off new work!! The first major show and sale of the year will be at Artswest's Spring Show and Sale at Elgin Hall, 14250 Cres Rd on Sunday, May 6, 10-4pm. I am anxious to introduce my piece "Singled Out" that has already won an Award of Excellence in the Blossoms Show with the Federation of Canadian Artists in April. You can learn more about this event and others at my website under Up Coming Events. www.artbywendy.com
My really exciting news this winter was to be recognized as a Drawing Master by the Canadian Drawing Society. I am now preparing for the FCA International Drawing Competion that closes on May 10. "Out On A Limb" is a smaller piece that I just completed as a warm up. I am working on a larger drawing of a baby crane called "Looking After Baby" , both will be entered. Keep your fingers crossed.
My latest works and Works In Progress are posted on my weekly blog enteries. Check them out at www.artbywendysblog.blogspot.ca

Becky McMahon and myself are coodrinators for this show on behalf of the Arts Council of Surrey. Advertising the event, looking for sponsors and helpers and putting all the details together has been our main focus this winter as Artists in Residence at the Newton Cultural Center. The show will be juried at the end of May and then will run June 1-30 in the Gallery at the NCC. The reception is Saturday, June 9 1-4pm so be sure and stop by to see the show. If you need an entry form check out the council website. http://www.artscouncilofsurrey.ca
Marketing Workshop for Artists
I have continued this winter to work with emerging artists in marketing their work. Today more and more artists are going it alone, without a gallery, being able to do this efficiently and an affectively takes work. I am really interested in working in that area. In addition to holding several events in my studio, I had a small group session in Yellowknife, NT in March. It was really exciting to work with artists on their marketing plans in the Far North. On the June 16 weekend I will be giving two 5 hours workshops on Marketing, one in Vernon and one in Peachland. I know that ideas will fly and everyone will come away with new ideas and directions for marketing.
