iWeek Dance Competition Live Stream
On Thursday, April 14th, Mason Cable Network students produced a live stream of the annual International Week Dance Competition. Always a popular broadcast, this year's online coverage was watched by people from at least five different countries. Fourth Estate Photography Editor Amy Rose was also on hand to capture the spectacle, including the Irish Dance Team that was named this year's winner.

In Case You Missed It
Editors Travel to AWP Conference in LA
Graduate students and editors from So to Speak and Phoebe traveled to the Association of Writers & Writing Programs Conference (AWP) in Los Angeles, CA in early April. Staff from both journals worked the George Mason University booth in the book fair and sold/distributed hundreds of journals, in addition to promoting submissions and writing contests.

Communication Dept. Awards Luncheon
Three WGMU staff members received awards at the annual Department of Communication Undergraduate Awards Luncheon at George’s on Saturday, April 9. Society of Professional Journalists Adviser Beth Jannery also presented awards to SPJ members Fernanda Rodriguez and Alexa Gohl in recognition of their outstanding leadership.
WGMU Program Director
Matt Dotson received the Beth Kauffman Award for Creativity, which is accompanied by a $250.00 tuition gift. The Kauffman award is named after for WGMU on-air volunteer Beth Kauffman, a chemistry major and Mason grad, who tragically died in an auto accident. Beth’s parents, Ron and Patricia Kauffman, have funded the award for over ten years.
WGMU Promotions Director
Ryan Allen received the Broadcaster of the Year Award. This award is presented to the WGMU Staff Member who has demonstrated devotion to WGMU above and beyond their normal position.
WGMU announcer
Jackie Reed received the Announcer of the Year Award. This award is presented to the on-air announcer who has demonstrated improvement and quality in their on-air work.
The Department of Communication also recognized former Fourth Estate Editor-in-Chief
Sara Moniuszko as a Challenge Grant recipient.
