Women's March on Washington
From today's Fourth Estate: "I was not at this march for the speakers or the free t-shirts. I went because when the world that I know begins...repeating the history that my grandmother and great-grandmother and even further back than that lived through, I know I must do something." Lottye Lockhart

Window of Opportunity
Podcast Assistant/Coordinator:
The George Mason Institute for Immigration Research (IIR) is interested in starting a podcast. This would highlight their program through interviews, information and more. The IIR needs a person to coordinate their podcast effort. The Podcast Coordinator creates, develops and produces podcasts. The student in this position would record interviews and edit and process the podcast. This person would also help upload the content to social media (iTunes, for example). The person in this position will need a significant amount of past experience in audio production. This position does not require specific training if the individual possesses the ability to produce quality and creative podcasts in a timely fashion. The student would use the WGMU Johnson Center studio to produce the podcast, including interviewing guest in studio or on the phone.

If you are a Communications major, you could receive Comm 452 credit, provided you qualify. You could receive academic credit in your major, if it is not Communications. You could also volunteer your time; in any event, you would earn much needed experience for your resume.

This is for Spring semester 2017, so the process for approval must happen quickly. Please contact Prof. Rodger Smith at rsmith6@gmu.edu if you are interested. If you are not interested, please forward to a person who would qualify and/or have interest in this project.

To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 – October 15), Big Red, America’s original and best-selling red soda, has partnered with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU), the only national educational association that represents Hispanic-serving Institutions, to support students pursuing a higher education. Big Red will grant five $1,000 Big Red ¡Avance! scholarships to assist students with the cost of higher education.

Scholarships will be awarded for the 2017-2018 academic year. Students can learn more about the scholarships at
