The holidays are coming, bringing it all back home
November 2016

The times they have changed

I follow a variety of Bob Dylan-inspired social media feeds. (Instagram is proving to be a treasure chest of rare and previously unseen pictures and videos.) As it is in these days of news-snippet overload, I can’t clearly remember where I saw it (reckon it must have been in my algorithm-cluttered Facebook newsfeed), but someone said our modern day bard had an outside chance of 50-to-1 to win this year’s Nobel Prize in Literature.

So it came as a great delight and bewildering surprise when a friend WhatsApped me a link to the literature story of the decade. The Shakespeare of our time, Bob Dylan, won the highest accolade in the world of written thought. Although Bob is probably not the first surprise winner in the history of the Nobel Prize in Literature, the fact that an American songwriter received the top prize for writing confused some and enchanted many.

For me, I was stunned, overwhelmed and infinitely grateful. Being a Bob Dylan fan has its ups and downs. He can be frustratingly enigmatic...

Can we put up our Xmas tree already?

We’ve reached that crazy, wonderful time of year when the countdown to the December holidays seems to rev up. There’s less than eight weeks to Xmas and everyone seems to need everything super-urgently. The problem is when everything is urgent, we can’t really prioritise anything and we blindly dash from one thing to another, juggling jobs and trying desperately not to drop any of them.

Coupled with this work mania is the stressful month of end-of-year school exams, as well as a variety of must-attend social engagements… Come mid-December we’ll definitely need a break to recover and recharge our batteries.

Earlier this week a very special grade 10 student spent a day job-shadowing us at The Toast. It was just an ordinary Monday for us, with regular client status meetings and design work that needed to shipped. Smilla was so absorbed, interested and enthusiastic about our business and really made the most of her time with us.

Atterbury Trust: Ons gee om campaign

Our client Atterbury Trust believes in the potential of everyone to achieve to the best of their ability, if given the right opportunities. That’s why the trust provides many bursaries to needy students. In addition to the provision of study assistance, Atterbury Trust also promotes various cultural events. This year the trust is again a sponsor of Afrikaans is Groot, the very successful concert series happening in Pretoria during November. The Toast assisted Atterbury Trust with its activation campaign.

Barloworld Equipment campaign

Barloworld Equipment has extended the MORETHANMACHINES campaign to appeal to more customers and increase its influence in the South African market. The 232D Skid Steer bundle is the next exciting episode with more to come.

New Jamavani brand identity

Twisted Toast recently created a new brand identity for high value game breeding organisation Jamavani. The owners breed high quality buffalo and sought-after Matetsi sable on their farm Leeuwdraai.

Twisted Toast will be on skeleton staff from 6 - 15 December and 3 - 16 January. The office will be closed from Friday, 16 December until Wednesday, 4 January 2017. November is a high volume month, so all jobs must be briefed timeously. No production jobs will be processed from 1 December - 3 January 2017 (Santa’s Clause).
