On April 1, 2017, FlU will celebrate the 16th anniversary of the Torch Awards Gala, a premier annual event where the University’s most outstanding alumni are recognized and celebrated for contributions to their fields, the community and their alma mater. This year, the College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts is honoring Oscar E. Cordova ’85, an architecture graduate.
Proceeds from the event will support the future construction of the FIU Alumni Center, as well as FIU’s First Generation Scholarship Fund. The event begins at 6:30 p.m., and will be held at the JW Marriott Marquis Miami. For more information, click here.

Alexander Perez | Architecture, '00
Miami represents a new frontier on architecture and approach, said architecture alumnus Alexander Perez, 00’ and principal and founder of JAYN Group, an architecture and construction management firm.

Perez said studying architecture New York and European cities are the epicenter of inspiration for building design. Living in Miami meanwhile he sees the city during its infant stages of discovery and evolution.

Cuban-American visual artist Maria Elena González, '80 will be exhibiting at the Hirschl & Adler Modern Gallery with an opening reception Thursday, Feb. 9. As part of her "Tree Talk" series, González creates new work in wood and in porcelain that functions as both sculpture and musical instrumental - addressing the inherent sound of the materials and sound as a material for sculpture.
