Dear KIPP NYC Families,

We are incredibly excited to welcome many of our teachers back on Monday, and then not long after, your students will be walking through the doors as well! From the moment we put the final touches on a beautiful high school graduation ceremony in June, our teams kicked into gear to make sure we are ready for another unprecedented year. As we look to open three new schools and welcome close to 7,000 students, we can feel the hope and promise of new opportunities for our students, our families and our staff. As we get set for that joyful reconnection, please take some time to bring yourself up to speed with some key updates.

Health & Safety

Health and safety is at the forefront of our minds as we start the new school year together. When your children arrive on their first day, you’ll see everyone masked, socially distant, and ready to go! Our staff are either vaccinated for COVID-19 or they are tested weekly onsite. Additionally, all of our school staff are submitting a negative COVID-19 PCR test before they return to school, regardless of their vaccination status. Please refer to the FAQ on our website for information about our health and safety protocols in our school buildings. Our Family Resources page is updated with 2021-22 protocols, tech support, and community resources.

Food Resources

After nearly a year and a half and providing almost 1 million meals to families and local communities, the Food Pantry will continue for two more weeks (the weeks of August 2 and August 9) with the last day of service on Thursday, August 12. It has been our pleasure to provide this support, and we are tremendously grateful for the volunteers who helped make this happen. Our culinary staff are returning to providing food services in our High School and several KIPP NYC schools. Please see our Community Resources page for accessing meal assistance in our communities. For the weeks of 8/2 and 8/9, we will operate the Food Pantry in the following locations:

Tuesday August 3 and 10

  • 11am at KIPP NYC College Prep High School (201 E. 144th St.)

Wednesday August 4 and 11

  • 10am at KIPP Infinity / KIPP STAR Elementary (625 W. 133rd St.)

  • 2pm at KIPP AMP (1224 Park Pl.)

Introducing the New KIPP Slogan and KIPP Forward

Over the last year, the KIPP Foundation assembled alumni, staff, and families from around the nation to support the development of a new narrative for KIPP Public Schools. Two key themes emerged: (1) togetherness + unity and (2) a future that is more just and equitable for all. We are proud of our new slogan, which was co-created by our KIPP team and family: Together, A Future Without Limits. And in Spanish, Juntos, creando un futuro sin límites.

At the same time, KIPP is renaming its KIPP Through College and Career program to KIPP Forward with the tagline, Supporting alumni through college, career, and beyond, or KIPP Avanzar – Apoyando a los exalumnos en la universidad, la carrera y más allá. The name change affirms the full range of choices and achievements available to students, whether they pursued a Bachelor's degree directly after high school or other pathways leading to meaningful lives.

We cannot wait for your students’ return, and look forward to a new school year, with new experiences and reasons to celebrate with you all. Thank you for your time and energy in helping us get to this point.
