New iPad and New iPad mini

In an update that nobody saw coming, Apple introduced a new iPad last month. The new iPad features processing and graphics that are twice as fast as the previous iPad that was introduced earlier in the year. All prices remain the same, making this upgrade a wonderful, wholly unexpected gift. 

In the announcement that everyone did expect, Apple revealed a highly portable, lower priced iPad mini. Starting at just $329, the iPad mini may bring into the fold a range of folks who have heretofore been priced out of the iPad market. Despite the smaller size and lack of "Retina display," the mini is a full-fledged iPad capable of doing everything that the larger iPad does. Over time, don't be surprised if the mini becomes the most popular iPad.

January SMUG Presentation

We are the in midst of a hardware renaissance, with new accessories giving us the ability to remotely management our home's lighting, temperature, locks, and more. Ty will be presenting an overview of various newfangled gadgets like Lockitron, Hue, Nest, FitBit and more at the January 2013 general meeting of the Salem Macintosh Users Group (SMUG). This meeting will be held at Comfort Suites Inn on Hawthorne Ave NE in Salem on January 11 at 7 PM. This meeting is open to the public and should you like what you see and decide to join, SMUG membership is only $25 per year per family. 

Holiday Hours

MacAtoZ wishes you the happiest of holidays! In order to celebrate the holidays with our families, we will be closing the offices the week of December 24-28 and be available on a limited basis through January 3. MacAtoZ Service Suite (MSS) members should still call for remote support should the need arise during this time. We remain eager to assist you, and we will endeavor to respond and to connect with you in a timely fashion, but we appreciate your patience should it take us a little bit longer than usual to return your call. This level of support is one of the benefits of being an MSS member, so please don't hesitate to call (503-507-0410) should you require assistance.

MacAtoZ Year in Review

First and foremost, THANK YOU. Your ongoing support of our business has allowed MacAtoZ to dramatically improve our service to you this year. 

In January, we added a reception service so that every call we receive (503-507-0410) during regular business hours is answered by a real person. We believe this to be infinitely preferrable to putting clients into a phone tree where you have to listen to a series of automated recordings and push various buttons to try to get help. Also, our receptionists are pretty great. Call and see for yourself! 

In March, we enlisted the help of Caro Nicholl to launch our quality assurance initiative. With a Master's Degree in Counseling and six years of call center experience, Caro is ideally suited to listen to client concerns and feedback. Caro's work has helped us ensure that we're continuing to serve you at the level you deserve and that we expect of ourselves. Should you have any concerns, complaints, or feedback about MacAtoZ you are always welcome to call us (503-507-0410). 

In August, we hired Brittany Palmer to serve as our Office Manager and Social Media Coordinator. Prior to joining MacAtoZ, she received her bachelor's degree in Linguistics from the University of Missouri. In addition to over two years of office experience, Brittany is a long-time Mac user, having worked with Macs since high school. Brittany is also our expert in Social Media. She has extensive experience in Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr, and, in addition to improving MacAtoZ's online presence, she is available to help guide clients into the sometimes daunting world of social networking. 

In October, we completed the initial move into our new offices. After over 10 years of operating out of a small home office, MacAtoZ now has its own dedicated location—over 1250 square feet of space—in which to conduct remote support service, hardware upgrade and repair, and provide other assistance as needed. Although the remodeling of this space is not yet complete, it will be soon, and we're excited about how this increased space will further our ability to serve you better. 

In November, we started a general Sales & Reviews email newsletter and launched a new MacAtoZ Online Store. Unlike much of the exclusive information and specials available here—which are only available to MSS members—this newsletter is open to everyone. If you're interested, please sign up here. For the year, we gave presentations to the general membership of the Salem Macintosh Users Group in February, March, May, and October. (As noted above, we're already schedule to present again in January.)

Looking forward to 2013, MacAtoZ has some exciting things planned. As MSS members you'll hear about them first. Again, our deepest thanks for your support. 

Tip o' the Day

In a change from previous versions of iTunes, iTunes 11 does not have an Advanced menu. This can make it a little bit trickier in iTunes 11 to join audio tracks. To do so, you need to insert the CD, select two or more tracks to be joined, click the new Options button, then select Join Tracks from the resulting menu. (If you've not selected any tracks first, Join Tracks won't appear.)
