Adobe issues critical Flash update

Update to version 11.5.502.149 essential. Adobe has released an update to their Flash Player for all platforms after two zero-day exploits were found in the wild targeting both Macintosh and Windows systems. iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch) do not use Adobe Flash and are not impacted.

To see if you have the latest version of Flash installed on your Macintosh, you can go to System Preferences > Flash Player and look under the Advanced tab. The latest version is 11.5.502.149. If you click the "Check Now" button, the system will check for you. We recommend that you click the "Allow Adobe to install updates" radio button as well.

You can do a manual download of the latest version of Adobe Flash at

The vulnerabilities identified in earlier Flash versions would potentially let a third-party take over your machine. All that would be required for this to happen is for you to visit a web site with this malicious Flash content on it. The latest Flash upgrade described above blocks these vulnerabilities.

It is important to note that Apple recognized the security weaknesses of Flash some time ago, and no longer ships Macs with Flash installed. Nonetheless, a fair amount of video content and a number of web-based games are written in Flash, so it remains a popular browser plug-in.

If you would like assistance installing Flash or exploring alternatives like ClickToFlash, please feel free to call MacAtoZ at 503-507-0410 to schedule a remote support session or an appointment.
