Three Streams - Unity...Unity...Unity!!!

“How good and pleasant it is when brothers and sisters dwell together in unity.” Psalm 133
We’re off to a great start in South Bend with over 1,200 people showing up for the Sunday night kick off! It is really amazing to me that on a Memorial Day weekend so many people would take the time to come together in unity. What is even more amazing to me is the testimony of SO MANY DENOMINATIONS coming together in unity throughout Indiana to not only worship the Lord and pray together, but to go out into the community together, fulfilling the great commission. The Spirit is flowing in this community.
When I think of the various denominations and what’s at their core, I think of 3 streams. There is an evangelical stream, a charismatic stream, and a mainline stream. Now, this isn’t a hard fact so please don’t email me to that end. However, you can see my point that most denominations probably have roots in one of these streams. My friend, Dr Rev James Busscher says it like this:
“Churches in the mainline traditions tend to flow and focus mainly on God the Father. They appreciate His primary role as Creator. Since they view God primarily as Father, they tend to view all people as brothers and sisters and tend to be very inclusive. Social action and causes are often the primary expressions of their faith. They may tend to struggle with saying Jesus is THE way, THE truth, and THE life, as the Evangelicals do, or may have trouble expecting on-going or immediate answers to prayer that characterize those who gravitate toward the Holy Spirit.
The Evangelical churches tend to flow in the stream of Jesus, the Word. Primary expressions of their faith are often a commitment to preaching and teaching the truths of the Bible, and to missions and evangelism, that all may come to know Jesus and have a personal relationship with Him. They may struggle with being open to the discoveries of science that the Mainline churches embrace, or to all the gifts of the Holy Spirit, including miracles, healings, and tongues that characterize the Charismatic and Pentecostal churches.
The Pentecostal and Charismatic churches tends to flow and focus more on the person of the Holy Spirit. They tend to celebrate the power of the immediate and felt presence of God, particularly through the power of praying with and for others, and in openly expressive worship. An awareness that our battles are not just against “flesh and blood, but against powers and principalities in heavenly places,” specifically, demons, is shared by many in this stream. A primary expression of faith is actively praying for others. This stream may also struggle with scientific discovery, the role of medication in healing, and with some of the intensive study and academic approaches the Evangelicals value. Using reason may feel to them as not trusting the leading of the Holy Spirit.”
So with the 3 streams imagery in mind, imagine with me three powerful rivers coming together. The confluence where they join would be powerfully intense. In Minnesota where the powerful Minnesota River joins the mighty Mississippi River, you can see a distinct, unique difference in the water of the two rivers where they merge, but a short distance later that difference is gone as one larger, deeper, mightier river flows onward. So yes, the confluence is turbulent and although it’s difficult to hold a boat steady in the center of the rivers confluence, fishermen know that’s where the best fishing is.
Time to Revive wants to go where the best fishing is. We desire to honor function in the confluence of all Three Streams. That would be one solemn body of Gods chosen people...the church - Ekklesia
Strongs 1577 ekklēsía (from 1537 /ek, "out from and to" and 2564 /kaléō, "to call") – properly, people called out from the world and to God, the outcome being the Church (the mystical body of Christ) – i.e. the universal (total) body of believers whom God calls out from the world and into His eternal kingdom.

Hello Prayer Warriors,
Bless your Memorial Day! The team is gathered and ready to serve!

John 15:13 "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends."

Day 134 Prayer Points:
1. Praise - The Lord is already stirring in the hearts of the people here. Had a great start last night in South Bend with 1200 people coming.
2. Pray for unity - There are strong denominational "walls" in SB that divide the Body of Christ.
3. Pray that the equipping of the saints today will jump start the Kingdom work here as they engage in the community and that the resulting testimonies will create an attractiveness for others to "come and see."
