Dear friends,
Hi. I am the nervous father of a new piece called
Work Songs. This one's been gestating, in one form or another, since 2011.
It's a song cycle for three voices, guitars, keyboards, piano, and accordion which I wrote for some of my music friends:
Becca Stevens,
Gabriel Kahane,
Ted Hearne, and
Nathan Koci. The topic is: artists talking about their own work and working process. Some of the songs are depressing, some are hopeful, some are a little bit funny, and some are all of the above. You can read about the piece in a bit more detail
here.
And that's not all—the rest of the show will comprise mostly new songs by Becca, Gabe, and Ted, specially arranged for our motley band.
There are a couple ways to hear it. If you're around NYC, by all means come to the
Ecstatic Music Festival on
Wednesday, March 19 at 7:30. That's at
Merkin Hall. (They are experiencing technical difficulties; happy Purim.)
Then we're bringing the show to the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra's
Liquid Music Series. There are two shows:
Friday, March 21 and
Saturday, March 22, both at 8 pm at the Music Room.
We'd all love to see you there.
best,
Timo
