Memorial Day weekend happenings
Memorial Day weekend 2015 promises to be exceptionally fun but, first, we remember the purpose of Memorial Day.
Sunday, we pause to honor the men and women of the armed forces who died serving our nation. It's the Mayor's annual Memorial Day Service, 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Fort Smith National Cemetery.
Also this weekend, the water park residents of Fort Smith and Sebastian County have been requesting for many years will throw open its gates to fun! Parrot Island Waterpark opens to the public on Saturday. Check the website for pricing information, special events, and discounts. Like the Parrot Island Facebook page for more current information about what’s happening daily, and check out the parrot’s Instagram feed.
All the Western Heritage Month events we’ve enjoyed through May are reaching maximum velocity this weekend, as the Old Fort Days Rodeo brings us a week of thrills and spills at Harper Stadium.
The second annual color dash run through downtown Fort Smith is set for Monday morning. Check the run’s official Facebook page for information on how to register, and more. The color dash formally kicks off the rodeo parade, so come downtown a little early and cheer on your favorite runner before you watch one of the best annual parades in the region. It all starts at 10:00 a.m. If you can’t join us downtown, watch the live stream, courtesy The Marshal KFPW-AM 1230.
Here’s a pretty awesome schedule for all the cool things happening the rest of the month. You can also follow TTDIFS or the Western Heritage Month Facebook page.
