"AGRICULTURE IS THE BEST CULTURE"

Integrated Farming

Self-reliance is the main objective of our farming projects, hence they should be oriented towards production. They should not be dependent on outside resources. An integrated approach to farming should include such areas as agriculture, horticulture, floriculture, sericulture, lac culture, apiculture, dairy farming, animal husbandry, irrigation, pisciculture, pest control, the proper use of fertilizers, cottage industries, energy production, research centres and water conservation. This approach will help make farming projects self-reliant, and should be adopted.

Krimishatru/krimiripu. The meaning of the term is “ghoŕanim” or “mahánimba” [“margosa”]. In the world there are different varieties of margosa. Some are very bitter, some less bitter and some are not bitter at all (such as curry leaves). In certain regions of India where cassiander leaves do not grow, people use curry leaves instead of cassiander leaves. The variety of margosa mainly found in India is margosa indica. This variety of margosa is used as a bitter food or bitter medicine. In the spring, margosa leaves are a highly beneficial medicine. They serve as an antidote to skin diseases, remove poison from the blood and function as blood purifiers. (READ MORE)

Yoga and Meditation Clubs in Ottawa

Acarya Diiptimanananda Avadhuta and Ac. Dayashiilananda Avt. started yoga and meditation clubs in Ottawa last winter. In beginning of September, Dada Diiptimanananda participated in Carleton Expo, where more than one hundred students clubs and student associations presented their activities to over one thousand students. 74 students signed up for information about the Yoga and Meditation Club at Carleton. This was follwed up with three classes attended by avareage of 15 students and three more days of information tables at the University Centre. By now the club is well known among the students and more than 150 students have signed up for information about classes.
At University of Ottawa, Dada had three days of information tables and more than 100 students have signed up for email list and 9 joined our classes. Those two university clubs provide free yoga and meditation classes to students on weekly basis and give presentation of the practices and philosophy of Ananda Marga. There is growing interest among young people for meditation and around half of the students joining our classes are already practicing some kind of meditation and are vegan or vegetarian. The clubs also provide opportunity to cooperate with other clubs and associations within the university.

Vegetable garden
This summer the size of the vegetables garden is approximately 600 m2. As usual, we enriched the soil with compost made from dry leaves collected from our forest and green grass after mowing the lawn. The main harvesting work started since the beginning of August 2014.
Here is the list of crops:
Green pole and bush beans. A total harvest estimated at 50 kilograms. Harvesting is going on.
Sweet corn. Approximately 200 cobs. Harvest just started for the first batch.
Carrots. We estimate the harvest to 150 kilograms. Harvest started.
Tomatoes. We are expecting approximately 50 kilograms. Harvest not started yet.
        Zucchini.  Approximately 80 kilograms.
Winter squashes. The weather was not favorable for the squashes this summer; so the expected harvest will be much less than last year; approximately 40 squashes.
Potatoes. Approximately 50 kilograms approximately. Harvest is almost completed.
Green peas. Approximately 20 kilograms. Harvest is almost completed.
        Beets. Approximately  7 kilograms.
Winter turnips. We are expecting approximately 100 kilograms.
We got also some green leaves, mainly kale and a little bit of Swiss chard.

Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar's (1921-1990) work in economics, intuitional science, music, health, and a host of other human endeavors is perhaps better known than his contributions to agriculture. Yet, in Sarkar's view, agriculture holds a prominent seat in human society. And while it was in his later years that he focused on agricultural systems to help revitalize rural India, Sarkar throughout his lifetime took an active interest in plants and their unique medicinal properties. When all of Sarkar's ideas on botany and agriculture are taken together, a comprehensive picture emerges. (READ FULL ARTICLE)

"Permaculture is a philosophy of working with, rather than against nature; of protracted and thoughtful observation rather than protracted and thoughtless labor; and of looking at plants and animals in all their functions, rather than treating any area as a single product system."

When You are close to me
My mind is filled with bliss
You have arrived with a smile
With sweetness in Your eyes

My mind is filled with bliss

If one has You
What else can one desire?
In fear of losing You
Tear fill up my eyes;

Even then, with my faith and conviction
I remain strong
An unknown and untasted
Feeling surrounds me.

My mind is filled with bliss

You stay with me age after age
In my wakeful awareness
My ideation beseeches surrender
Alone at Your feet

My mind is filled with bliss.
