Law Week 2016 – making an impact

Building on the success of past years, Law Week 2016 was a great success, with many events sold out and attendance records up. Thanks to all our Event Partners for making it happen.

But, what had the biggest impact on us was the feedback we got from people who attended the events. How much they learnt, how much they enjoyed them and how much they want to come back next year!

Got a bright idea? Our General Grants are now open

Our General Grants are now open, and we are looking for projects that will improve Victorians' understanding of the law and their legal system. Once again this year, we will be giving priority to Law Week events and legal information projects.

It’s been two years since we launched Everyday-Law – our website that aims to give Victorians access to the best legal information. Find out what we have achieved this year, including growing our audience by 45% to reach 100,000 visitors in the last 12 months.

Law Talks comes to Law Week

Over 150 students from eight schools were engaged and educated at our recent Metropolitan Law Talks held in Law Week. Speakers inspired the students with their personal stories and shared their legal knowledge. Speakers included: former Victorian Attorney-General, Rob Hulls; the Chair of the Victoria Law Reform Commission, the Honourable PD Cummins AM; and the Victorian Ombudsman, Deborah Glass OBE.

Legal Briefs

Funded by a General Grant, Snodger Media has produced a series of 10 short videos, hosted by lawyer Lizzie O’Shea. In the series, Lizzie talks to Australia’s key legal minds, explores important cases and reveals how Australian law works. The series will be broadcast from 2 June on ABC's TV 3 at 10:45 am each Thursday, or watch the series now.
