Thanks for an amazing year so far!
Thank you for your interest in my photography. Your support and encouragement have had a great deal of impact on me and my work. I created this newsletter to recap news about some recent awards and share the  dates of some upcoming exhibits.

2011 Awards

So far this year, I have already been fortunate enough to have more than 30 images recognized with awards in some 15 different regional, national and international competitions and/or juried exhibitions.
In addition to many domestic competitions such as Camera USA (Florida), Art of Photography (California) and Simplicity (Texas) I was pleased to have work recognized in several of the largest and most prestigious international competitions, including The Pollux Awards, Worldwide Photography Gala Awards and Sony World Photography Awards (all based in London, England) as well as the Prix de la Photographie Paris (based in Paris, France).
The photograph above, entitled “Before the Storm” has been the most popular and has already won more than 10 awards this year. It was named one of the top 50 landscape images in the world (from among 58,000 entries) and was exhibited at Somerset House in London as part of the World Photography Festival (which took place during the royal wedding).
It has been very rewarding to see my new black and white landscape work become as well received as the color wildlife work I concentrated on the previous year. It will be interesting to see what other surprises the rest of 2011 may hold.
"Someday I'll Fly" photo of Sandhill Crane Colt

Flying High!

I titled the photo of this little Sandhill Crane Colt "Someday I'll Fly!" and the title has proven to be very appropriate. Last year it won awards from The Nature Conservancy and Wisconsin Trails Magazine. And this year it just received awards from Prix de la Photographie Paris (PX3) and Witness to Nature (an international competition sponsored by Encyclopedia Britannica).

Texas Rose

"By Any Other Name" was one of two images I had included in a national juried exhibit called "Simplicity." The works were exhibited for several months at A. Smith Gallery in Johnson City, Texas.

Parfrey's Glen

This image has received three awards in recent months. In January it was in a juried exhibit called "Branch, Leaf, Blossom" at the UW Arboretum in Madison, WI. It recently also went on display in "The Art of Photography Show" in San Diego, CA (where it was selected as one of the top 15 cash prize winning images from more than 15,400 entries from 74 countries). And it just received an Honrable Mention Award in the 31st annual international photo contest from Photographer's Forum Magazine in Santa Barbara, CA. It was selected from more than 14,000 entries from 90 countries and will also be published in a beautiful hardcover coffee-table book called The Best of Photography 2011. Last Fall it was also included in juried exhibits at Photo Midwest and Sundance Cinema.

In the Clouds

I don't often get up before sunrise... But I'm sure glad I did in time to capture this image from Wawanissee Point, the highest part of the Baraboo Hills in Wisconsin. This photo was selected as one of 25 images included in a national exhibit called "Landscape: Beyond the Mundane" juried by two National Geographic photographers.
