Spring Takes Flight!
The sound of Sandhill Cranes can be heard in the distance and the sweet smell of spring is in the air. Thanks to your continued support, the past few months have been exceptionally busy and rewarding. I sold a record number of images in the past quarter and my work has been exhibited all the way from California to England. If this momentum continues, 2015 should prove to be an exciting year!
EXHIBIT: Cambridge Winery! I have a solo exhibit entitled "Terroir" in the gallery at the Cambridge Winery Madison Tasting Room, located at 1001 S. Whitney Way in Madison, Wisconsin.  If you enjoy my photography (and great wine), please join me at a reception on Thursday, April 9th from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Knapstein Image of Gibraltar Rock EXHIBIT: Stafford, England! I am honored to have my image "December Fog" selected as one of the top 100 photographs in the world by the Royal Photographic Society in England. Their 157th Annual International Print Exhibition is now touring the UK and will be at the historic Shire Hall Gallery in Stafford, England until May 10, 2015. The exhibit was previously at famous locations including Royal Albert Hall in London.
EXHIBIT: Carmel, California! My image “Foggy Morning” was selected by the Center for Photographic Art for their 2015 International Juried Exhibition. Based in Carmel, California, this is the oldest photography organization in the United States. The Center is well known for many things, not the least of which is that they were founded by world famous photographers Ansel Adams and Edward Weston.
National Geographic Top Shot! My "Crane Dance" photograph was recently named the "Top Shot" in an international competition from National Geographic. This award attracted quite a bit of recognition around the world. I received hundreds of congratulatory email messages...and also quite a few sales! The image was captured at dusk at Stricker's Pond near my home in Middleton, Wisconsin.

Wisconsin State Park Guide Cover by Michael Knapstein Featured in British Magazine! Digital Camera is the top selling photography magazine in the UK. They recently did an article about the Royal Photographic Society's 157th Annual International Print Exhibition. They only published 11 images out of the 100 in the exhibit,  and I was honored that they included my photograph in the story.
Snow Storm! My "Snowfall" image received a storm of recognition. It was selected for the coffee table book "Best of Photography 2014" by the editors of Photographer's Forum magazine, featured as a full-page Showcase Image in Shadow & Light magazine and also included in the "Snow" online exhibit from Lenscratch magazine.
NEW: Crane Gallery now Online! Few things are as majestic or rewarding to photograph as cranes. Just in time to celebrate their return to the Midwest, I added a new gallery with 100+ crane images to my website. These images were all taken here in Wisconsin, most of them within a few miles of my home. A few were also taken near the "Shack" made famous by Aldo Leopold. If you have time, please check them out and let me know what you think!
