News on recent exhibitions and awards from Michael Knapstein Fine-Art Photography
Spring is Here at Last!
The weather here in the Midwest was anything but warm this winter. But despite the cold temperatures, things have continued to heat up for my photography. In the months since my last newsletter, I feel very fortunate to have had my photographs exhibited from coast-to-coast (New York to California) in the United States, as well as being recognized in a number of major international juried exhibitions and competitions based in Australia, England, France and Spain. As always, I want to thank all of you for your continued support and interest in my work.
EXHIBIT: New York City!  I was honored to have my work exhibited at the SoHo Gallery of Digital Art in New York City. My photograph “Before the Storm” was named the Grand Prize Winner in the “Rural Impressions” international juried competition from the New York Center for Photographic Art.
Knapstein Image of Gibraltar Rock EXHIBIT: Madison, WI! This 5 x 10 foot mural is just one of seven photographs I had selected for a juried exhibition called “Reflections: Madison” which is now on display at the Frank Lloyd Wright- designed Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center in Madison, WI. Curated by David Wells, the exhibit will run through this fall.
Parfrey's Glen by Michael Knapstein EXHIBIT: Sydney, NSW, Australia!  Four of my black and white landscape images will be exhibited during the Head On Photo Festival, which is the largest photography event in Australia and the second largest in the world. The exhibit is entitled “Around the World in 14 Days: How the Landscape Unites Us” and I  am proud to be the only photographer from the United States to have work included in this show. The exhibit will be held at the Pine Street Gallery in Sydney this May and June.
First Place Focus on Wildlife by Michael Knapstein EXHIBIT: Malaga, Spain! I was trilled to learn that ten of my photographs earned spots in the 3rd International Biennial of Fine Art and Documentary Photography which is organized by the Worldwide Photography Gala Awards. My photographs will be exhibited at the Municipal Heritage Museum in Malaga, Spain from September through November, 2014.
Moonrise by Michael Knapstein EXHIBIT: Oceanside, CA! My image Parfrey’s Glen” was selected as one of only 30 images from around the world for an exhibit entitled “Contemporary Landscape Photography: An International Perspective” held at the Oceanside Museum of Art in Oceanside, California. The exhibit ran from November, 2013 through March, 2014.
Image "December Fog" by Michael Knapstein EXHIBIT: Carmel, CA! My photograph “December Fog” was selected from among more than 1,000 entries to be part of the 2014 Juried Exhibition at the Center for Photographic Art in Carmel, California. I am very proud to have my work recognized by this group, which is the oldest photography organization in the United States. It was originally founded by two of my favorite photographers; Ansel Adams and Edward Weston.

"Wawanissee Point" by Michael Knapstein Awarded in Paris! My image entitled “Wawanissee Point” received a prestigious Juror Award in the Landscape/Seascape category of the Grand Prix de la Couverte, a major international fine art photography competition based in Paris, France. This meant my image was chosen as one of the Top Ten in that category from among more than 5,000 entries.
Image "Moonrise at Lake of the Clouds" by Michael Knapstein Honored Internationally! Seven of my photographs received Honorable Mention Awards in the Lucie Foundation’s International Photography Awards. They included five winners in the Nature/Seasons category, one in Panoramic, plus this Great Gray Owl that won in the Nature category. My photos were selected from among more than 18,000 submissions from 104 countries.
Wisconsin State Park Guide Cover by Michael Knapstein Big as Life! Seven of my photographs taken in Wisconsin State Parks were installed as wall-size murals in the new Diagnostic Imaging Pavilion at the University of Wisconsin American Family Children's Hospital in Madison, WI.  These room-filling images are 9 ft. high and 16 ft. long. It is marvelous to know my images may help aid the healing process. Photos of other large-scale installations can be seen here
Covered in Magazine! Three of my color nature photographs will appear in the Spring edition of Midwest Prairie Review magazine. The image shown (which was taken on the Wisconsin River near Aldo Leopold’s famous Shack), will grace the front cover. Watch for it on newsstands starting in April.
