November Newsletter
Helping you and your congregation have a positive impact on our environment.

Dear friends,

The holiday season is upon us serving as a great reminder of how we can truly show our love for our families and friends as we adhere to our principles to be faithful stewards of Creation and to care for God’s earth that nurtures all of us.

We will start with a special prayer and then dive into all our news from South Carolina Interfaith Power and Light (SCIPL), including how Interfaith Power and Light and SCIPL are “Energizing the South” with a Southeast faith movement advocating for energy justice for our most vulnerable communities.

A Thanksgiving Prayer (English and Spanish)

Eternal God, we give thanks

For the gifts of life, wonder beyond words;

For the awareness of soul, our light within;

For the world around us, so filled with beauty;

For the richness of the earth, which day by day sustains us;

For all these and more we offer thanks.

Baruch Atah Adonai, hatov shimcha ul'cha na-eh l'hodot.

Blessed are You, Eternal, Your Name is goodness,

and to You we offer thanksgiving.

(Rabbi Judith Z. Abrams)

Dios eterno, damos gracias

Por los regalos de la vida, maravilla más allá de las palabras;

Para la conciencia del alma, nuestra luz interior;

Para el mundo que nos rodea, tan lleno de belleza;

Por la riqueza de la tierra, que día a día nos sustenta;

Por todo esto y más te damos las gracias.

Baruch Atah Adonai, hatov shimcha ul'cha na-eh l'hodot.

Bendito eres Tú, Eterno, Tu Nombre es bondad,

ya ti te ofrecemos acción de gracias.

(Rabina Judith Z. Abrams)

Help Us Achieve Energy Justice For All

Can you join us in “Energizing the South” with Alabama Interfaith Power and Light, The People’s Justice Council and faith communities across the Southeast?

Energizing the South is a Southeast faith movement advocating for energy justice for our most vulnerable communities. While providing energy efficiency assistance to congregations we will also be calling for accountability and protections from our Public Service Commission. We will work with communities of faith to accomplish this goal.

Reverend Michael Malcom, Founder and Executive Director of The People’s Justice Council and Alabama Interfaith Power and Light, kicked off Energizing the South with a two-day summit in October. It featured an impactful line-up of faith leaders from throughout the South who spoke passionately about our duty to love our neighbor.

You can view a recording of Rev. Malcom, a former SCIPL Coordinator, speaking with Interfaith Power and Light (IPL) Executive Director, Rev. Susan Hendershot about the interlocking themes of faith, climate, energy justice and racial justice, here. We are looking for volunteers for our Energizing the South campaign which will include committing to specific actions from the Congregational Covenant and sharing with other congregations about the work you’re doing .

Email and we will get back to you with all the information you need to support this important campaign.

A Charleston Church Caring For Creation With Energy Reduction Efforts!

Congratulations to Trinity WorldWide Outreach Ministries in Charleston who joined the Congregational Energy Efficiency Challenge (CEEP)  in 2019 and has greatly reaped the benefits of doing so!

“The work that was done at our ministry has been very impactful,” says a recent Trinity Faith Leader Statement. “The biggest and most important being a reduction in the energy bills. Since the completion of the work, we’ve seen one bill reduced by about 54% and the other about 63%.  With these savings, we are able to increase spending in activities geared towards the community.”
Since making many remodels, Trinity WorldWide Outreach Ministries has announced a plan to educate others in the community by holding an “Energy Workshop”. They also plan to spread the good news of their energy efficiency successes far and wide through all of their platforms and social media. Over a lifetime of the project usage, Trinity WorldWide Outreach Ministries is looking at saving close to $5,000!

What can your congregation do to become more energy efficient? Find out more about the Congregational Energy Efficiency Challenge here and sign our Earth Care Covenant as an individual or a faith community.
