The good news is we’re 10% of the way to our all-church goal of 800 hours. The bad news is that only eight families have recorded hours so far!
We're at 83 hours!
As a church, we would like to reach 800 hours, or more, of serving as a way to be present in and serving the tangible needs in our communities. This is just one of many steps towards our vision of seeing every neighborhood in Pierce County Engaged by Believers and Transformed by Jesus.
Can you spend just one hour this next week
serving in your neighborhood or community? (If everybody did we might get to the other goal, dunking the pastors!)
Our Summer of Serving will culminate with Serve Sunday on September 26. On that Sunday, after we finish our Serve Sunday projects, we hope to gather around a dunk tank to dunk six of our pastors.
Here's how it will work:
1) We are keeping a running tally of how many hours we've served.
2) When we reach 800 hours, we'll rent a dunk tank for September 26 to dunk six of the RVCC staff.
3) The people with the most hours served will have the privilege of doing the dunking (or choosing proxy dunkers).
As we head towards Fall of 2021, RVCC Online is ready to launch into the next phase of being the digital campus of Rainier View Christian Church. We are so excited for this upcoming chapter as we continue to live out our mission, encouraging people to Pursue God, Engage in Community, and Make a Difference.
In September 2020, we launched our Sunday online worship service using the Church Online Platform (CHOP), found at live.rainierview.org. Unlike viewing the service on our website or YouTube, people logging in to CHOP were able to create a user name and participate in an online chat with our hosts and one another while watching the entire Sunday service. Additionally, users were able to enter into a private chat room to receive prayer.
Adding a Second Online Service at 7:00pm
Starting on August 22, live.rainierview.org will be the only place to experience the entire online church service, which includes worship songs and the announcements that are given at RVCC Parkland and RVCC Graham. We will continue with the 10:30am online service, but we’ll also be adding a second online service on Sundays at 7:00pm. Though our website and YouTube channel will not have the announcements and worship, they will continue to carry video of the sermon content. The YouTube channel also has many of the songs we sing on Sunday played by the RVCC Worship Team. Why the change?
Ultimately, we have been called to worship with one another. Our physical campuses have pre-set times for the people to worship together, and our online campus will now do the same. No matter where a person watches the online service from, they will be engaging in worship with others all over Pierce County and beyond. We hope that if you are not able to attend in-person services at RVCC Graham or RVCC Parkland that you would join us for one of the two services at RVCC Online.
If you would like to learn more about joining our volunteer service host team, I’d love to connect with you to let you know about how you can help others feel at home at our online campus. Thanks for reading and we’re excited to see how God is going to move through all three campuses at RVCC! Mike Parejo Digital Ministry Pastor
A New-ish Addition to the RVCC Staff
the team, Kathi!
As we continue to shift and adjust our staff, in particular to meet some of our administrative needs, we are thrilled to welcome Kathi Dorow (back!) on the staff team here at RVCC. While Kathi has been on staff previously in a few different roles, she will now be joining us in a part-time role at RVCC Graham as the first dedicated administrative staff member for that campus! As the Graham Campus Administrator, Kathi will be overseeing our follow up with new guests, coordinating the building usage, and helping the pastoral staff serve the RVCC family well.
In addition to starting in this role, she also has recently begun her own business running a flower farm. If you need fresh cut flowers for any occasion, you now know who to ask! Check out the flower farm on Instagram, @4dflowers.
We are so grateful that as we have had needs on our team to be filled, especially with restarting so much of our ministry after 2020, that God is bringing the right people with the right skills and heart to match our team at just the right time.
July 19-23 6:00-9:00pm at RVCC Graham
Charge Week is for all 6-12 grade students (and their friends!). If students want even more fun, we will also have two daytime events at Defy Tacoma and Tower Lanes Tacoma.

July 25 at RVCC Graham 6:00pm - Food available for purchase 7:00pm - Worship
It's almost time for our annual Summer Praise Night at RVCC Graham. We'll gather on the hillside in view of the mountain as we worship together. Be sure to bring chairs, blankets, or anything else you need to be comfortable. This year the bands and vocalists will be from both RVCC and Tahoma Church, the Latino church plant that meets at RVCC Parkland each Sunday.
Come early and come hungry! Members of Tahoma church will be providing Latino, Mexican and Chilean food for purchase at 6:00pm before Praise Night! All proceeds will go to supporting Tahoma Church.
Friday, August 13 7:00pm at RVCC Graham
This is for families and people of all ages! We will open the parking lot at 7:00pm for desserts and yard games, and the movie will begin at sundown. We'll provide an ice cream sundae bar, popcorn, and water, but movie goers will need to bring their own chairs and blankets.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE! Volunteer Spotlight
Sharon Klumpenhower has been part of the RVCC family dating back to 2004, along with her husband Mark and their daughter Rebecca. Over the years Sharon has served the church in so many ways! She's helped in our finance office, served at our annual Serve Sunday, and been a Community Group leader, a Rooted leader, and a small group leader for virtual VBS in 2021. She's been a wedding coordinator, a building host for groups using our facilities, and she was even a member of our choir (when we had a choir)!
During the shut-down of 2020 Sharon stepped into a brand new role in the church. She serves as one of the hosts for our online church service on Sunday mornings. Sharon makes sure that everyone who enters into the chat room is warmly greeted, encourages those in attendance to take part in the chat, and engages with those who need prayer in a private chat room. We are so thankful for Sharon’s heart to serve and share God’s love with people both in person and online!
We Need to Fill the RVCC Food Bank
We’ve had a food bank at RVCC Parkland for many years, and after more than a year of being closed, we look forward to serving our community in this way again. Our food bank, which relies completely on donations, provides a bag of non-perishable groceries to families in our community who need a little bit of help.
Currently, the shelves are empty, so we’d ask you to please consider picking up some of the following non-perishables when you do your grocery shopping:
Powdered milk Cereal
Peanut butter Goober (peanut butter & jelly mix) Saltine crackers
Hamburger Helper Rice Pasta and pasta sauce Soup Canned fruits and vegetables (pull-top cans preferred)
Donations can be brought to RVCC Parkland or RVCC Graham any Sunday morning or to the church office at RVCC Parkland from 9:00am to 1:00pm, Monday through Thursday.
We're also looking for somebody who would enjoy helping us organize donations and pre-filling bags for our guests. If you are interested, please reply to this email.
Jim Penhollow, former associate pastor of Parkland Christian Church (which became Rainier View in 2003), passed away on February 12, 2020. Jim was the associate pastor back when Rusty (our current Executive Lead Pastor) was hired in 1987 and he was instrumental in the growth of Parkland Christian Church during the 1980’s. He worked as a missionary, missions director, and church planting coordinator in the years that followed his time here. He was a key part of providing resources for Intrepid Church to start in Gig Harbor. Please pray for Jim's wife, Leslie, and the rest of the family as they prepare for a memorial service at Powell Butte Christian Church on August 28, 2021.
