Increasingly in our world, people are attending church less and less. Those indicating they hold to an atheistic or agnostic worldview is at an all-time high in our culture. Even many of us who are followers of Jesus have had a hard time reengaging in the regular rhythm of Sunday morning worship services.
What can you do? How about extending one simple invitation this fall?
We are having our annual Serve Sunday on September 25. It will begin at 9:00am at RVCC Parkland or RVCC Graham. From there, we will go out to our local school sites to pull weeds, trim plants, lay bark and do some general cleaning up. We’ll also be putting together staff gifts for each school’s staff. That includes not only the teachers, but the custodial staff, the office staff, para-educators, etc., so that they will find a bit of joy and encouragement on Monday morning.
Here’s the twist this year – We want you to think of Serve Sunday as an invite event.Serve Sunday is the perfect opportunity to invite someone who needs to get back into the rhythm of celebrating alongside others on Sunday mornings at a worship service. It’s also a great chance to invite someone who is resistant to church and has doubts or hurts about church and faith. They may not be ready to join you for a worship service – but they may be willing to serve alongside you at one of the schools. Start thinking now about a neighbor, co-worker, teammate, or friend that may not even be interested in Jesus right now – but may be ready to join you to do something good for the community. Keep in mind that this event is for families. We love the idea of families serving together and have some fun projects planned for the kids.
Serve Sunday – Sunday, September 25
Don’t miss the chance this year to make Serve Sunday not only a blessing to our community – but an opportunity to extend an invitation that could be the first of many steps in someone’s journey of faith.
Save the date and decide who to invite. Sign-ups begin next week!
