Debbie Lyons, who just celebrated her 17th anniversary of working here at RVCC in May, has decided to retire. She’s one of our favorite people and has been a pillar on our staff for many years. Every organization needs someone who pays attention to details and acts as the “glue” by making sure all the specifics of programming, activities and ministry essentials are coordinated. Debbie has been that person on our staff. Her professionalism, pursuit of excellence, caring attitude and “extra-mile” mentality has been a gift to our staff and to our congregation, many times behind-the-scenes where it often went unnoticed. She was versatile, able to be both strong and compassionate, and savvy when it came to both relational and business interactions. Her quick and easy smile, willingness to take on multiple tasks, and ability to get responsibilities accomplished with high quality are her signature values and are already missed!
We are praying for you!
Starting in 2021, she selflessly made the decision to move to a half-time position in order to allow no other staff cuts to be considered entering the new budget year. This example of her generous character remains very moving legacy to our staff. As she headed towards retirement at some point beyond 2021, health issues moved her timeline forward. She recently was diagnosed with a brain tumor, which was successfully removed, and her recovery is progressing well. She will continue to battle the diagnosis of cancer that followed the surgery, and that fight begins with treatments starting next week. Please pray that her treatments will be effective, and that side effects will be minimal.
Debbie is currently living with her daughter, Beth, and her husband, Devin, along with Debbie’s grandkids in Gig Harbor. When she is stronger and feeling better, we will plan on having a well-deserved retirement party for her! For now, we wanted to let you know how much we love her and how to pray in the weeks and months to come.
Thank you, Debbie, for your incredible time on our staff, in the RVCC church family, and in our hearts! We love you, miss you, and are praying for you.
- Rusty, for pretty much everyone at RVCC
If you'd like to send Debbie a word of encouragement, feel free to bring or send a card to RVCC Parkland and we'll get them to her.
