April Update
MediWales goes independent

We are proud to announce that for the first time in its 23 year history, MediWales has moved to a fully self-funded status.

As an independent, not-for-profit organisation, we will continue to focus on the creation of opportunities for our members and the advancement of human life science in Wales.

Wales has been blessed with some beautiful weather during the beginning of Spring, and spirits are high! We're feeling bright, energised, and ready for a busy few months ahead.

There are some excellent events coming up in the next few weeks, including Anglonordic Life Science Conference XII and Med-Tech Innovation Expo. Our partnerships with United Life Sciences and Medilink UK provide MediWales members discounts to attend these events. We are already looking ahead to the next UK HealthTech, which will be the fourth annual conference - see below for more information.

All of these events can be found on our online calendar. Have you seen our new website yet? Take a look!

UK HealthTech: 1st December 2015

Save the date - the fourth annual UK HealthTech conference will be held on 1st December 2015 at St David's Hotel in Cardiff. We have some excellent sponsorship and exhibition opportunities this year. Please contact Tess to learn more.

Council for European Bioregions (CEBR): European Cluster Medical Device Programme

We'd like to invite MediWales members who are medical devices and diagnostics SMEs to join CEBR’s European Cluster Medical Device Programme, a Europe-wide online directory and community. Clusters and SMEs can be part of the following platform:
  • Online directory with SME profiles, browsable and searchable
  • 6 monthly SME hotlist publication
  • Directory and hotlist promotion to international partners and investors
The directory will be launched at BIO in Philadelphia in June and the first hotlist will be published at Medica in November.
Contact Tess for further information and to get involved.

Expert Advice:
Urquhart-Dykes & Lord LLP

This month our expert advice comes from Urquhart-Dykes & Lord LLP as they discuss IP issues that every company should consider. Intellectual Property (IP) is generated when we use our minds to be creative in some way. Companies of all descriptions generate their own IP, as well as using other people's, so we are interacting with IP in all sorts of ways every day. Click here to read Urquhart & Lord LLP's top tips.

New Member: Homeglow Products

Homeglow Products Ltd has developed a unique heated seat cover (B-Warm) designed for the typical domestic environment where its user might be frail, elderly or in need of low power heat to ensure core body temperature. It supplies between 10 and 45 watts of heat input, covering from the back of the neck to the knees at a consistent very accurate temperature. It is simple to install, to use and has fail safe functionality, as well as costing a mere 1.1 pence per 16 hour day to run on the lowest setting, a few pence on the highest setting of four. It is washable for re-use at 40C. It has therapeutic benefits yet is very low cost to run, with real fuel economy if user has an issue with running cost.

Developing businesses – developing people: we believe that there are two key strands to any business. Hard-edged business management and the softer, but crucial development of people. It is often difficult to get the balance right, particularly in scientific businesses, and especially where investment makes tough demands on performance. ARP Associates provides both elements to help develop company potential.
