Emily Carr University of Art + Design
For Immediate Release

Vancouver, BC, October 22, 2012 | Emily Carr University of Art + Design is pleased to announce that the 2012 Red Dot Design ranking has recognized the University as one of the most innovative art and design universities in the world. Emily Carr is the only Canadian institution to be named.

“This is a prestigious achievement — to be ranked near the top of all global design schools and be the sole Canadian university named,” says Bonne Zabolotney, Dean, Faculty of Design + Dynamic Media. “It is a true reflection of the hard work and dedication of our talented design faculty and staff, and, our forward-thinking curriculum.”

The Red Dot Design ranking seeks to honour leaders in innovation for their pursuance of design excellence through a compilation of an organization’s achievements in the Red Dot Design Award over the past 5 years. The ranking is computed using a weighted formula considering the cumulative number and classes of awards won in the past 5 years of the competition.

Emily Carr’s Design curriculum takes a non-siloed approach to education, exposing students to all design disciplines. The collaboration and sharing results in a rich discourse and cross-pollination where students work together to creatively solve problems in areas, such as health, sustainable and social + interactive media design. Students are also afforded the opportunity to tap into Emily Carr’s applied research hub, the largest of its kind in Canada focusing on art and design, where they work with leading edge businesses to provide innovative solutions to some of their most difficult challenges. Recognized with numerous national and international accolades and awards, design alumni have gone on to start successful companies or hold key positions in top global companies including Lululemon, Apple, Google, Hootsuite, Twitter, and Adidas.
