Last month Telecentre Europe met Saskia Van Uffelen, Belgium's Digital Champion and CEO of Ericsson, and interviewed her about eSkills and digital jobs. Saskia thinks that digital today is about new services, innovative business models and data while employers have to anticipate jobs of the future and prepare their employees to be re-employable. The FIT4JOBS partners team met in Lisbon on April 20-22 to discuss the milestones reached so far. The project that replicates the employer-led training model pioneered by the Irish FIT Ltd (Fast Track to IT) is being implemented across 5 additional EU countries: Greece, Portugal, Spain, Latvia and Lithuania.The project also shows how the Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs acts at the local level to deal with the lack of digital skills in Europe. Concluding Carer+ project event in Paris counted over 30 speakers discussing about investing in skills for carers and service delivery. The project Carer+ aimed to qualify caregivers for elderly people in developing their digital skills for improving their daily routines and quality of work during a three year (April 2012 to April 2015) project period. Unite-IT, an informal network of digital inclusion professionals across Europe, calls for another round of good practices in the field of digital inclusion. Everyone who submits at least ONE digital inclusion resource, good practice or policy, which gets approved, will be entitled for FREE accommodation at the Unite-IT conference in Belgrade on 23-25 September. For the eight year running Telecentre Europe will be organising its annual conference on 23-25 September. This year the event will be hosted by International Aid Network in Belgrade at the Hotel Hyatt. Telecentre Europe (TE) is very excited to continue build the existing partnership with Microsoft this year too! Earlier in April Microsoft announced YouthSpark partnerships as part of Microsoft YouthSpark programme. During the “Digital Week”, an awareness week about digital literacy in Belgium, LINC vzw hands out an E-award to projects in Flanders and Brussels that have a strong impact on e-inclusion. Maks vzw was nominated with the project where almost 50 participants with a low level of general literacy told their personal story while exercising their Dutch language skills. The project won second prize in the category ‘Impact’.

Along with DOT (Spain), Fundacion Esplai (Spain), LIA (Lithuania) and LIKTA (Latvia), Telecentar is a partner in Trans eScouts project - empowering eFacilitators for intergenerational dialogue by facilitating the social and digital inclusion of elderly and youth and improving the lives of the local community. The project is in full swing now in Telecentar in cooperation with our volunteers from the Faculty of Teacher Education and Faculty of Political Science.

On 23rd April 2015 the Parliament of the Federation Walloon-Brussels (Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles) held a discussion forum on the digital gap. The Ministry responsible for education presented several projects in schools aimed at tackling the digital gap, like ICT passport or Educatube.be. Telecentre Europe welcomes the fact that e-skills and digital inclusion are the first priority in the Walloon plan. FIND OUT MORE

‘Media Meets Literacy’ is a learning and networking event aimed at 200 Media and Information Literacy (MIL) professionals from all over Europe – from policymakers and researchers to academics and, in particular, practitioners like us. Eurostat released a publication on what it means to be young in the EU, including data on "How do young people make the switch from school to work?” and "How are they affected by information and communication technologies in their everyday lives?”.
