Introducing Gabrielle Jones

Gabrielle Jones lives in the Blue Mountains surrounded by a lush and vibrant garden that serves as frequent inspiration for her paintings and respite from her busy studio.

Gabrielle is an expressive painter who is highly engaged with colour and with the physicality of paint. Best known for her abstracted landscapes and gardens, Gabrielle is never afraid to allow an inspirational thought or idea to take her into a different direction. Her consistency in painting approach however allows her to tackle different subject matter while retaining a distinct and recognisable style.

Gabrielle has undertaken many residencies and relishes the opportunity to see the world anew and translate experiences and observations into her work.
And here is where the magic happens, in Gabrielle's home studio in the Blue Mountains
Gabrielle's home makes it clear just how important art is to her life.
Below are photos of her home, showcasing part of her extensive Art collection, which includes works by Artists Rosalind Atkins, Jackie Rankin, Robert Malherbe, Euan MacLeod, Rick Amor, John Peart, Elisabeth Cummings and Norma Lindsay.

The vibrant garden and outdoor area shown below are reminiscent not just of Gabrielle's paintings, but also of her time spent in other countries, on residency in Spain and leading art retreats in Bali.
Gabrielle currently has a range of paintings on board, canvas and paper from her landscape and garden inspired series. There are a selection of framed and unframed works available on ART500. Click on any of the images to see more detail.

What's coming up for Gabrielle?

After Christmas, Gabrielle heads North from the Blue Mountains to be Artist in Residence at Tweed Regional Gallery during January where she will be making paintings in response to the Margaret Olley house and Studio installed there.

Gabrielle is also completing a number of commissions, and working towards a group show and two solo shows during 2016. And if that's not enough, Gabrielle will be conducting a retreat in Umbria in May 2016 and will again be teaching weekly classes at Art ClassSydney.

Quote of the Day

Here is a quote that Gabrielle says is precisely how she sees her art practice:

“Ten times a day something happens to me like this - some strengthening throb of amazement - some good sweet empathic ping and swell.
This is the first, the wildest and the wisest thing I know: that the soul exists and is built entirely out of attentiveness.”
