A Thankful Update

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!  We want to thank you, again, for supporting and encouraging us in so many ways.  Because of you, we are able to be Christ's hands and feet among the Roma people here in Kosice, Slovakia.

Today we invite you to thank God with us, and to learn how you can be praying with us in the weeks ahead.

Good Things Continuing!

As we reported in our last newsletter, we've already begun several ministry activities that began with the fall school year.  These include:

- We're traveling to Kezmarok 2-3 times per month to help teach English at the Roma high school.

- We're meeting weekly with preschoolers and first graders at the Roma elementary school here in Kosice (see photo above and at the end of the newsletter).

- We've been leading two levels of Conversational English classes here in Kosice.

Through these activities, we're finding opportunities to share God's love through Jesus Christ, to have faith conversations, and to encourage and support local believers.

We're thankful to God for these chances, and we thank you for being a part with us!

New Possibilities

Thank you for your prayers for us as we meet with local agencies and individuals who work among Roma here in Eastern Slovakia - these meetings are yielding lots of good conversations and ideas!  Here are some of things we've been doing:

- A woman in a nearby village who teaches Roma women to sew products they can sell to support their families (see photo below).
- Workers at a local orphanage who work with Roma and Slovak children.
- Missionaries doing development and agricultural work in nearby Roma settlements.
- A conference of workers from across Slovakia, emphasizing new and innovative methods for supporting Roma.

We're excited by meeting new friends and colleagues who share a passion for working among Roma, and the many new possibilities God is showing us!  We look forward to sharing some of those things with you soon.

Along with all these things, the girls are doing well in school, our language learning is moving forward at an even-quicker pace than before, and we had a chance over fall break to get away for a couple of days and spend some valuable family time.

  • We recently created a video that's a thank-you note and a report of our ministry this year.  If you haven't received it but would like to, please contact us (reply to this email) and we'll be glad send it to you!
  • Remember that we're actively looking for ways we can share about God's work here among the Roma in Slovakia, and it's even easier to do that over the internet!  Interested in having us speak (via recorded or live video) in your worship service, Sunday School class or other group?  Contact us and we'll make it happen!

Prayer Needs
As you include us in prayers, please remember the following:

  • Pray for us as we continue to meet with local workers among Roma, and as we process many new possibilities - for discernment as we choose among many ideas, and wisdom to know how best to proceed.
  • Pray for the school in Kezmarok, that's facing many difficulties - for wisdom and peace for the school staff and teachers, and good relationships in the community.
  • Sometime in the next 12-18 months we plan to return to the U.S. to raise support and visit with our partners.  Please pray with us about the details of this trip - especially financing and finding the best time that will best support our ministry and the girls' education.

Teaching numbers and counting.

At the Hope for Roma center in Rankovce, Roma women learn to sew and produce items - like these beautiful bags - to support their families.
