Balderson Named to Second Term as Chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee
COLUMBUS– Ohio Senate President Keith Faber (R–Celina) today appointed State Senator Troy Balderson (R–Zanesville) to serve as the Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Energy and Natural Resources.
The Energy and Natural Resources Committee is charged with overseeing legislation dealing with all of Ohio’s natural resources, including oil and gas exploration. The panel also provides oversight for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and makes recommendations to the full Senate on the advice and consent of certain governor’s appointments.
“Southeast Ohio is rich in natural resources, and the energy industry here affects everyone," said Balderson. "The industry contributes to a healthy economy in our region as well as the entire state, and I am pleased to have been given the opportunity to work so closely on issues that will directly affect the people that I represent."
In addition to being named Chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, Balderson was also named to several other Senate Standing Committees, including Public Utilities, of which he was named Vice Chairman, Government Oversight and Reform, Insurance, Education, Finance Subcommittee on Education, and the Joint Committee on Agency Rule Review.
Prior to joining the Ohio Senate, Balderson served in the Ohio House of Representatives, where he was named to the powerful House Finance Committee and also presided as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Agriculture and Natural Resources. Through these positions, he has played an important role in developing policies that encourage job creation while putting Ohio back on a path to fiscal stability.
Born and raised in southeastern Ohio, Senator Balderson graduated from Zanesville High School in 1980 and attended both Muskingum College and The Ohio State University.
Chairman Balderson will convene the committee in the coming weeks.
